The Rumoured New ‘Bachelor’ Lead Is Bisexual And I Have Déjà Vu

It’s no secret that the past few seasons of The Bachelor Australia have been a total snoozefest. So much so, that there were rumours-a-plenty circulating that the Aussie iteration of the American dating show was ending for good.

However, after 56 long, weird seasons (okay, 20, but still) from The Bachelor Australia franchise, Channel 10 has decided to give it another whirl, despite the show’s lack lustre ratings.

Like every Bach season in the past few years, the network is apparently trying to make the upcoming one ~*different*~ and they’re reportedly attempting to do this by basically using the template from Brooke Blurton’s season of The Bachelorette (which failed dismally in the ratings, btw) and popping a male in her place.

Brooke was the first bi-sexual The Bachelor lead (in the world!) and her suitors were made up of both females and males. According to So Dramatic, the new “confirmed” (we use this word very, very loosely) lead for the next season of The Bachelor is a fashion model who identifies as bisexual.

“One of the Bachelors that they’ve picked and [are] working with this year is James Parr,” an anonymous source told the publication. “James is bisexual, so they’re having contestants of both sexes.”

The source pointed out that James is disabled (he had his foot amputated in 2019 to fight cancer) and a First Nations man, and said that The Bachelor is trying to be more inclusive this year.

“I think James will be an interesting choice,” they said. “He will also be the first Bachie with a disability, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

“He’s Indigenous too, so it’s basically another Brooke Blurton but male and with a disability… I think it will be good.”

“They’ve brought James along as one of the Bachelors to try and tick off some diversity,” the mysterious insider added.

Which feels… exploitative.

If you picked up on the earlier reference the aforementioned ~*anonymous source*~ made about James reportedly being “one of the Bachelors” the network has picked, then ten points for you. It appears the show is not only recycling the fundamental element from Brooke Blurton’s season but also from this year’s triple-lead stunt and we will once again be subject to multiple Bachelors.

Surely, they can’t find any worse leading men than Felix from this year’s season, can they?… Can they?!?!!? Oh lordy.
