It’s official: Sex Education has been renewed for a fourth season!

In Season 3, we went on a real journey. We had to deal with new headteacher Hope Haddon and her strict rules, had the unexpected pleasure of seeing Otis and Ruby as a couple, and we were all left shouting about how Adam Groff deserved better.

But despite Season 3 being full of some beautiful moments — like Adam’s heartfelt poem, Ruby opening up and proving herself to be the superior partner for Otis, Maeve and Isaac’s touching sex scene, and Aimee’s important therapy breakthrough with Jean — the season ended in a whole lot of heartache.

We were, yet again, left with another will-they-won’t-they cliffhanger with Otis and Maeve, Eric broke up with Adam, Cal and Jackson decided they’re better off as friends, and Aimee finally called it off with Steve.

However, all the massive relationship changes in the Season 3 finale got me thinking about the pairings we actually deserve to see in Season 4.

So here’s a definitive list of which Sex Education couples should actually be together in Season 4:

Ruby and Otis

Sorry to all the Otis and Maeve stans out there, but Ruby and Otis is the superior pairing.

One of Season 3’s best character developments happened with Ruby, who dropped her mean girl persona and actually let her walls down for Otis. And if we’re honest, Otis doesn’t even deserve Ruby.

Personally, if I told a man I loved him and he just said “that’s nice” in response, I would simply never leave my house again. But if Otis has to end up with someone (as we know he will, being the show’s main character and all) it has to be Ruby.

Maeve and Isaac

Sex Education Couples Season 4 Maeve Issac

Was Isaac very shitty for deleting Otis’ voicemail to Maeve at the end of Season 2? Yes. Do I forgive Isaac because I think he and Maeve are actually adorable together? Also yes.

If Isaac never fessed up to what he did, I wouldn’t be rooting for them as a couple. But as soon as he and Maeve started getting closer, Isaac knew he had to put everything on the table before moving forward.

Plus, there’s no judgement between them and they understand the struggles that each other goes through. The same can’t be said for Otis, who famously publicly called Maeve “the most selfish person he’s ever met” when he felt rejected.

Rahim and Adam

Now that Eric has broken Adam’s heart and Rahim is friends with Adam, there is very real potential for this romance to bloom. After all, Adam did save Rahim’s ass in France by claiming that the sock of shit flung out the bus window was his.

Between Adam’s poem, Rahim’s flirty sarcastic texts, and the pair actually being on speaking terms now, I’m hoping that Adam and Rahim become a thing in Season 4. Or, at the very least, that Rahim helps Adam discover who he really is and what it is that he actually wants.

Eric and the concept of being single

Eric doesn’t need a relationship in Season 4, he needs to focus on being single.

As we saw in Nigeria, Eric thrived in a situation where he could be himself and not be tied down. Sure, Eric shouldn’t have cheated on Adam but his experience in Lagos just proved that they were both sadly just on different levels.

Eric needs to spend some time having fun, dressing how he wants, and going out with people who are fully comfortable with who they are — and the best way for this to happen is by Eric staying single.

Aimee and Maureen Groff

Sex Education Couples Season 4 Aimee

Aimee did the right thing by breaking up with Steve. Now she can spend Season 4 being less anxious about her relationship and more focused on the things that really matter like her baking and hanging out with Adam’s mum, Maureen.

Maureen and Aimee make a strangely perfect duo, and we can only pray that Season 4 gives us more of the iconic pairing.

Jackson and Viv

Viv’s boyfriend Eugene is unbelievably hot, there’s no denying that. But Jackson and Viv are end game — whether that’s in a romantic or platonic sense.

Their journey from forced study buddies to friends to almost lovers to enemies was hard to watch over the last three seasons, and I think it’s time we finally get a stable relationship from Jackson and Viv.

If they don’t make it as lovers, Season 3 proved that we at least need them to stay friends and have each other’s backs. Please.

Lily and Ola

I’m just going to say it: Lily and Ola should break up next season. But I do believe that the two should still remain friends.

Both Lily and Ola have grown a lot together, but it may be time that they find different partners more in line with their own personal interests because Ola clearly isn’t 100% comfortable with all the alien roleplay and Lily ended Season 3 confident that she was happy liking the things that she liked.

I mean, just look how much fun Lily had when crafting that horny roleplay message to Viv’s boyfriend.

Cal and Layla

Sex Education Couples Season 4 Cal

Cal teaching Layla the safe and proper way to bind their chest was sweet to watch, and I’m hoping that we get to see more of them as the series explores their friendship in Season 4.

Also, if Sex Education gives us the Cal and Layla friendship we deserve we can finally learn a bit more about Cal because Season 3 only really told us they like weed and hate tight-fitting clothes.

Jakob and Jean

I don’t care what Jean’s paternity test says. Jean, Jakob, and little baby Joy are meant to be together.

Miss Sands and Mr. Hendricks

Sex Education Couples Season 4 Eugene

The only non-problematic couple in this entire show is Miss Sands and Mr. Hendricks and if Season 4 breaks up this perfect relationship after that adorable bus stop proposal, we will riot.
