We chatted to the new cast of Teen Mom Australia to get to know more about them and what to expect from the show.

On their journey before Teen Mom Australia:

AMMERSEN:

“I’m 18 and from Melbourne. My journey before the show isn’t much different compared to when we are filming.

Obviously if we go right back I was just a normal teenager! I went to school, worked a part-time job, enjoyed going to parties and seeing friends but my main focus was probably completing school and working. When Jiyah came along things did change but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

AKOSITA:

“My name is so long, it sounds gibberish so I go by Sita! I’m 19 and currently live at home with my partner Thomson, baby Andrew and almost about my whole village in Tonga (well at least it feels like it aha!). My journey leading up to the show was pretty much just me trying to do my best and adjust to my new life and my new little human.”

GEORGIE:

“I fell pregnant at 17 and had my daughter Evie when I was 18. Over the years I’ve had an on and off relationship with her father John. Leading up to the show John and I were giving things another shot for our little family.”

On the process of filming the show and having cameras follow their daily lives:

AMMERSEN:

“At the start having the cameras there is pretty weird but after the first couple of times, you honestly forget they are there. It can be challenging having the cameras in your face but it’s all a part of the experience.”

SITA:

“The process of filming was great! There was no real difficulties or challenges when it came to filming as I was just doing as I normally do but had a crew there capturing special moments.

I guess the only challenging thing about filming was saying goodbye to great people, who in such a short time I got so used to seeing around my home – they were pretty much a part of the family!”

GEORGIE:

“I found the process of filming great but I did find it challenging at first as I had stuff going on.”

On how their family and friends reacted when they found out the girls would be on the show:

AMMERSEN:

“My family was a bit hesitant at first but they are totally supportive! Heaps of my friends are like omg that’s so cool’ and are really excited for the show to air.

SITA:

“My family were a little on the fence. But from the minute I said yes they jumped on board and were supportive. Everyone was excited as they knew I had a story to tell!”

GEORGIE:

“My friends were all really excited and supportive of Evie and I, but my family did have very mixed emotions about it.”

On any Teen Mom Australia scenes they’re nervous to watch back:

AMMERSEN:

“I mean there might be but I have baby brain and can barely remember haha!”

SITA:

“Aaah! I’m nervous for them to see my diary cams! They were my diaries so get your teacups ready to get an earful of my feelings about people in my house.”

GEORGIE:

“No, I think it’s been a great experience. There is some stuff that may make me emotional but nothing to be worried about.”

On the best and worst part of filming:

AMMERSEN:

“The best part would be having the chance to show other young mums, or even mums in general, that parenting is hard but totally doable and so rewarding.

No matter what obstacles come your way you still have a little person that depends on you and you’ve gotta get through it for them! I don’t have a worst part yet.”

SITA:

“The best part about filming would be the special moments that were shared between my little family that were captured and now everyone gets to see how precious my family are to me.

The worst part would have to be… knowing how many people are going to see what I look like off the gram!”

GEORGIE:

“The best is that I’ll get to see my baby girl grow over the season and just see how far we have gotten since the beginning.”

On the one thing they want viewers to know about them:

AMMERSEN:

“I just want people to realise that not just me, but the other girls, are all still human beings trying to do our best. The only difference is our lives are being filmed for the world to see! People will always have their own opinions but when you watch the show you will see more of our stories.”

SITA:

“That I am a proud, young, Australian Tongan mother.”

GEORGIE:

“I’m just a young mum trying to balance my beautiful daughter, work, my social life and the relationships around me.”

On the best and hardest thing about being a teen mum?

AMMERSEN:

“The best part about being a teen mum is that I’ll get to grow with my baby! He has made my life so much better in so many ways I can’t even explain how blessed I am.

The hardest part is that parenting can sometimes feel like it’s one big competition and most of the judgement often comes from other parents.”

SITA:

“Time management and patience would be the hardest thing about being a mum. My son teaches me every day how to be patient… I MEAN IT HAHA!

The best thing about being a mum is that I have a best friend and son all in one. My son is probably sick of hearing my problems and unaccomplished goals but one day at a time is what I say to him every day. My life couldn’t be any better than what it is right now, today!”

GEORGIE:

“The best part about being a teen mum is I get to spend my days with my little girl and watch her grow. The hardest part is it’s extremely hard trying to juggle everything and find that balance.”

Teen Mom Australia will premiere this winter on MTV on Foxtel, Foxtel Now and Fetch.
