Abbie Chatfield & The Rest Of Australia React To Umm… ‘The Bachelors’
It was confirmed overnight on The Project that the upcoming season of The Bachelor will be The Bachelors. Yep, three men will be winning over the hearts of a nation this year. Sounds tiring tbh!
The leading men will be professional basketball player Felix Von Hofe, ex-restauranteur Thomas Malucelli, and drummer Jed McIntosh. Osher Gunsberg introduced the fellas and sounded hyped that the long-running series was changing up the format. “We are doing a world first! No one in the world has ever had three Bachelors. The way it works, the way everyone gets to know everyone will be very different,” he said.
This year’s season has already started filming in a brand new mansion in sunny Queensland. It’s unclear how the format will work with three different men sharing the titular role of Bachelor.
While Osher couldn’t be more thrilled, not everyone was impressed with Channel 10’s casting decision, which appears to be a step back in terms of the diversity platformed in 2021. All three men appear to be white and according to Channel 10, they are all looking to date women, which dashes any hopes fans held for a sexually diverse Bachy this season.
Abbie Chatfield addressed the casting on her national radio show, Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield, where she questioned the lack of diversity. “Why isn’t there not one person of colour? I’m hoping at least one of them is bisexual,” she said. “I just don’t get why we’ve got three Bachelors, if the structure is completely different, if there are no fairy lights and if there are no candles — this isn’t The Bachelor.”
The former reality star remained hopeful that a series shakeup could save the show, which suffered the worst ratings ever during last year’s seasons. “The ratings have been going down and down and down and I just don’t know, I hope it does saves it.”
On Twitter, Bachy fans were baffled by Channel 10’s decision.
At least they’re adding some diversity to this season of #TheBachelorAU and got someone with an Italian accent. #theprojecttv

i enjoy the way #thebachelorau was like, well our worst season ever was when we had two boring white bachelorettes at the same time so let’s do that but more

Interesting that bachie ratings have been steadily declining for years and the solution is to just keep adding more bachelors per season

The Bachelors’ promo image is certainly something we’ve never seen before.
