Izzy left The Bachelor last night after hometowns, saying a teary goodbye to Locky Gilbert who chose Irena and Bella to go through to his final two.

Izzy won us over with her infectious laugh, bubbly personality, and her gentle ribbing of Locky, bagging him out for his plain taste in food as well as his inability to do yoga. We saw the connection between Izzy and Locky really blossom in lockdown, with the two going on the first single virtual date and managing to make a bathtub scene seem not as traumatic as it usually does.

They then mapped out their future in another single date, before Locky was introduced to Izzy’s mum, second mum, and cousin in the hometown episode. Her family were just as likeable, with her mum pressing Locky with the tough questions like his views on feminism which left our poor Bachy a bit confused.

And who could forget Izzy’s mum then asking for Locky’s sperm if it didn’t work out between Izzy and Locky? An icon.

We chatted to Izzy about her time on The Bachelor, whether she’d still take Locky’s, uh, sample, and what we’ve missed out on seeing when it comes to the fallout of Irena and Bella’s friendship:

On her connection with Locky:

“Particularly the last cocktail party before hometowns, we had a really heartfelt conversation where he really poured out his heart following my single date. Even during hometowns, there were a lot of conversations where he talked about how he was feeling. Watching it back it’s hard, but our connection did start to form later. During iso we were having this fun, early stages relationship, where you’re not having deep and meaningful convos like he probably was with some of the other girls at that stage.”

On why she didn’t get a rose:

“At hometowns we had a conversation about what our future would look like. He said he wanted to move to Sydney after this experience, and I would move for love, but he also said he wanted to travel Australia for the immediate 12 months after the show wrapped. And while I’d love to do that, my career is really important to me and I wasn’t prepared to drop everything and quit my job and put my career on hold for that. That was the reason he said he didn’t give a rose.”

On her mum asking Locky for his sperm:

“Very happy to decline the offer (for the sperm!) She told me she said that at hometowns and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ’. I wasn’t so shocked because it is the kind of thing my mum does, but definitely happy to decline!”

On what shocked her watching the show back:

“I was probably more shocked at how we’ve seen Bella and Irena’s friendship play out towards the end. There’s so much that happened off-camera. It’s been hard to watch back and know what’s happened and not see it play out on screen. I’m still really close with Bella and I know she’s copped a lot of negativity as a result of some of that.”

On what really happened with Bella and Irena:

“From what we’re seeing, it really looks like the whole feud is staged over Irena talking to Locky which is not the case at all.  There was a whole lot that happened during iso, off-camera, things that were said by Irena to us girls about Bella and it was at the point they were still best friends. And Bella found out about those things and that’s why she reacted in the way she did, she felt betrayed by someone she thought was her best friend. She said things about Bella that were lies and didn’t really happen.”

And what the alleged ‘body-shaming‘ comment was:

“The way it’s been reported is not how the situation happened at all. Bella had supposedly said to Irena that she needed to work out more, so Irena told Steph this… there’s a lot of ‘he said, she said’. When I said something to Irena about it, she said ‘no I never said that.’ Bella was really upset that Irena was telling people that Bella body-shamed her when she didn’t. I think it says a lot that Irena was the one that still wanted to be friends, if someone really body-shamed you, I don’t think you’d want to be friends with them. But then Irena did say to me that it never happened. Steph was one of my closest friends and I do trust and believe her.”

And on finding love after The Bachelor:

“I’ve found love! We met through a mutual friend, and we’ve been seeing each other… probably two weeks after I got home from filming wrapping so we’ve had to be a bit careful being out and about. I’m so excited to be able to tell the world how happy we are, he’s absolutely amazing, I’ve never met someone so thoughtful and who really just accepts me for who I am.”

The Bachelor finale airs tonight on Channel 10, at 7:30pm.
