After literally months of promos and nonstop speculation, The Masked Singer finally premieres tonight and we are just a little bit excited.

While we’ve done our own research into just who the celebs behind the masks might be, their identities still remain the ultimate mystery.

So to gather up as much info as possible ahead of the premiere tonight, we talked to the man, the myth, the hair…series host Osher Günsberg, of course.

On picking up secret hints when guessing the Masked Singer:

“The best way to play this game is to pay super close attention to everything you see in the clue packages. Right before our masks come out and sing, we play a one or two minute long video showing clues of who they are, and every single thing in the frame is a clue.

“So for example if one of our masks is a bilby (there is no bilby) but in the back of the shot there’s a scrabble board — that’s not there by accident. Everything you see in the frame is a clue. They’ve put it together very cleverly.”

Osher added that when guessing, viewers need to not hold on to one guess for too long despite it not lining up with all the clues.

“The other way you need to play this game is to be careful of confirmation bias. When you want the idea to be right so you try to jam the clues into your idea, and as more clues come, it gets harder to stuff the clues into your guess. You’ve got to be prepared to let your guess go.”

On recognising one of the people behind the mask:

“I was standing backstage the first day of shooting and I hadn’t seen any of the masks at this point. So I’m facing outwards and I hear them coming in behind me. Then I feel someone behind me reach out and grab my ass. Like a proper handful of my ass. Then straight away I was like, ‘Oh my god, I know them.’

“Then I turned around and I’m looking straight at, I’m going to say a different mask, I’m looking at a wombat. I was like ‘Holy shit, it’s you!’. And sure enough after how many shows later once the wombat head came off, it was like boom, there it was. It was something about the energy. There was something about an energetic exchange when I knew the person, that I knew who it was.”

On the weirdest costume:

“The spider is very odd to look at because of the way the spider moves. It’s very odd and almost like a Mars Attacks sort of vibe. But the strangest one is the monster because you can’t tell what body shape monster is, you can’t tell if it’s big or small or tall or anything.”

On the calibre on contestants:

“I didn’t get many [celeb guesses] right at all. I was blown away. I was like ‘How did you get that person to do this?’ But also, how did you say yes? You’re a busy person with a big career!”

On working with Lindsay Lohan:

“I get the feeling that Lindsay is happy for whatever stories people want to tell about her to be told. Because when Lindsay showed up she just delivered, like the complete professional that she is. She was super prepared, she had done heaps of homework, she was really well-researched and dropping names left and right like she lived here. She was great to work with.”

On changing his hosting style from The Bachelor:

“I was happy that I was able to use my outside voice because there’s been a lot of whispering this year. I mean, to be honest I was saving myself for this because when the masks come off I get so excited, I blow a gasket.

“But if you think my voice is going to be loud, just wait until you see the suits I’m wearing,” he told us. “I’m going to be standing on stage next to seven-foot tall prawn while fireworks go off and as much as I love the double-breasted numbers from The Bachelor, I can’t be standing there like that. I’ve got to match that energy or I’ll look out of place.”

On what to expect on The Bachelorette:

We couldn’t not ask Osher about the upcoming Bachy season but he remained fairly tight-lipped.

“Angie is a fantastic Bachelorette and the men she has to choose from are equal parts magnificent and loose. But the men that show up that try to woo Angie, they each have qualities that she finds attractive.

“The guys are great and Angie’s fantastic. I’m so amazed with how much she threw herself into this. She gets what she came for. She’s the best. She’s so funny and she won’t take any shit. There’s a couple of times, and I don’t want to spoil, but there’ s couple of times she basically lined the boys up and told them what for, you know.”

When pressed over whether Angie gets a happy ending, Osher simply hinted back: “Australia will not be disappointed.”

HOW DARE YOU, MYSTERY MAN.
