Even if you’ve never seen The Office, chances are you’ve heard about Jim’s pranks. Often pulled on the long-suffering (but totally deserving) Dwight, the pranks are one of the best running gags in any comedy series ever.

Jim and Dwight were destined to be frenemies from the start. Dwight was annoyed by how carefree Jim was, and Jim was annoyed by literally everything Dwight did and said.

So Jim retaliated by pulling a never-ending series of pranks on his office nemesis. Some were dumb, most were brilliant, and all of them were hilarious.

These are 18 of the best pranks Jim pulled on Dwight in The Office:

#1. Put Dwight’s stapler in jelly

Some things are classics for a reason. In the very first episode, Dwight found his stapler stuck in a bowl of jelly. It’s one of Jim’s most basic pranks but, like a true Basic Bitch, it’s perfect just the way it is.

#2. Convinced Dwight that the Dunder Mifflin website had become sentient

Dwight decided to compete against the new Dunder Mifflin website to see who, or what, can sell more paper in a day. Jim and Pam got so annoyed that they started sending Dwight fake messages from the website, pretending to be a sentient AI that just become self-aware.

#3. Pavlov Dogged Dwight

Sometimes, Jim spent weeks pulling off elaborate pranks, like the time he conducted his own Pavlov’s Dog experiment on Dwight.

Every time Jim restarted his computer, he gave Dwight a mint — until the day Dwight heard the sound of his computer restarting and held out his hand expecting a treat.

#4. Made Dwight hit himself in the head with his phone

Put simply: Jim put more and more coins inside Dwight’s desk phone so slowly that he didn’t notice it getting heavier, and then one day took them all out.

In the same scene, we heard about a lot of other pranks Jim pulled on Dwight, like the time he replaced his pens with crayons, paid everyone in the office to call him Dwayne for a day and put a bloody glove in his desk drawer to convince him he had committed murder.

#5. Convinced Dwight to fight himself

Dwight ran countless martial arts workshops in the office. When he called for a volunteer, Jim convinced him that the only way they’d learn anything was by watching Dwight play both the attacker and the defender.

#6. Put Dwight’s things in the vending machine

Jim had friends in high places — or at least, he was friends with the vending machine guy who helped him put everything from Dwight’s desk inside the machine, including his wallet, so he couldn’t even buy everything back.

#7. Sent Dwight gaydar

Sometimes, the best pranks in The Office were the ones that tricked Dwight into thinking he wasn’t even being pranked. Like the time Jim sent Dwight a metal detector, called it ‘gaydar’ and we saw him grapple with his sexuality when it beeped above his junk (and his belt buckle).

#8. Convinced Dwight it was Friday instead of Thursday

As someone who frequently forgets what day it is, this one stings but even I have to appreciate its cleverness. One Thursday morning, Jim realised that Dwight thought it was Friday, and spent the rest of his day talking about his weekend plans and watching Thursday night TV.

#9. Convinced Dwight he was turning into a vampire

When a bat got loose in the office, Jim told Dwight that he was bitten. Then he pretended to burn his hand on garlic bread, faked a headache because of the light coming off Angela’s crucifix and felt his teeth as if he was getting fangs.

#10. Sold Dwight magic beans

When the office had a garage sale, Jim managed to convince Dwight that not only did magic beans exist, but they were worth trading for a $150 telescope.

#11. Created Quad Desk

After Dwight stole Jim and Pam’s desks to form a sprawling workstation called Mega Desk, Jim retaliated by stacking all of the desks on top of each other and putting Dwight’s things in a tiny crawl space at the bottom.

#12. Pretended to be William M. Buttlicker

Jim and Dwight were forced to practice their customer service skills together. Jim invented a fake customer, William M. Buttlicker, and in one pretend phone call managed to make Dwight scream at a customer and almost made Michael fire Dwight.

#13. Used morse code to speak about Dwight in front of his face

Every great spy show has morse code, except this isn’t a spy show, it’s The Office and it was Jim and Pam clicking their pens to talk about Dwight. When he put on headphones to block out the sound, they started blinking at him in morse code instead.

#14. Sent his friend to work in his place

In less than two minutes, Jim and his actor friend Steve managed to convince Dwight that Jim was, and always had been, Asian.

#15. Replaced Dwight’s desk with a cardboard replica wrapped in Christmas paper

The best Christmas present Dwight got that year was his own desk and everything on it covered in super cute wrapping paper — that later turned out to be a cardboard desk that collapsed when Dwight sat down.

#16. Wrote a fake book on how to throw a garden party

Even after the show went downhill, Jim’s pranks were a beam of sunshine, like the time he wrote an entire book and made sure that Dwight bought the only copy.

Some of the rules in The Ultimate Guide to Throwing a Garden Party by James Trickington included yelling guest’s names as they enter and performing a closing ceremony.

#17. Sent Dwight faxes from ‘Future Dwight’

Not even working in different offices could stop Jim from pranking Dwight. In fact, it inspired one of the greatest pranks in The Office — sending Dwight faxes from the future warning him about poisoned coffee and other crazy conspiracies.

#18. Surprised Dwight at his wedding by inviting Michael

For his final prank, Jim finally used his powers for good and surprised Dwight by arranging for Michael to be the bestest mensch at his wedding. My heart!
