What My Failed Shitposting Group Taught Me About ‘Round The Twist’

We all love a good shitposting group, don’t we? Seeing that other people also have layered thoughts about a TV show that ended 20 years ago can really help you feel like you’re not alone in this world.

It is for that reason my three siblings and I decided we should get in on the action and start a shitposting group in honour of the Logie Award-winning classic, Round The Twist.

In case you’ve never watched Round The Twist (get on Netflix or Prime now then come back and read this article so you can understand the references), it followed the wacky adventures of the lighthouse-dwelling Twist family as they get stuck in absurd and supernatural situations.

The show successfully ran for four seasons on the ABC, unlike my siblings’ failed shitposting group that fizzled out after months of meme-making during lockdown. Here’s what our occasionally funny memes taught me about Round The Twist.

The Show Was Weird As Shit

I’m not the first Punkee writer to discuss this but by golly there was some weird shit on that show. With Bronson’s whirly willy, an all boy pissing contest, twins making out, and a teenage boy giving birth to a tree, it’s easy to forget this is a show for kids.

Taking some of the scenes of the show out of context and they look like bizarre stock images that haven’t even been purchased once.

Yeah, all of these weird things happened on the same show.

Yet despite all the mental things that happened to them, the Twists always got it together for the end of the episode.

Seasons 3 & 4 Have A Lot To Hang Shit On

Just like Sean Connery as Bond or the cast of Bring It On, the original is usually considered the best and Round The Twist is no exception. Because the show ran for over 11 years, there were major cast and writing changes throughout. As a result, the characters became a lot less nuanced and more stereotypical.

Don’t get me wrong, all of the seasons have some appeal but the decline of quality over the seasons fast became one of our go to meme themes.

Yeah, Captain America had some pretty conflicting thoughts on series 3 and 4, and yeah, my siblings and I give the more recent seasons a lot of shit.

But there is one character in particular taking the bulk of the brunt.

No One Likes Pete Number 3

Overall, all the actors who play the Twist kids have their strengths and weaknesses, except for Pete number 3 who my siblings seem to despise.

I’ve written about this fella before and in the cold light of day it looks a bit harsh so I’ll make it quick; season 3 & 4 Pete Twist is a cheesy over actor who is trying to hump everything with two x chromosomes.

Here is what we said about him in meme format:

Alright, this one might have taken it a bit too far. Let’s cleanse our eyes, shall we?

The Extremely Dated Website Is Still Live

Looking at this meme my sister made, I was very impressed with her attention to detail, it really looked like a daggy early ’00s photoshop job.

That’s because it was. The Round The Twist website made to announce season four almost 20 years ago is still pumping today.

Careful, it’s not secure

What a nostalgic little trip into the early internet this is. Someone is still paying for this domain to be reviewed each year. That’s about $2k over the past 20 years to keep this alive. Who is this person? What’s in it for them? Are they some weird soldier paying silent tribute to his fallen comrades of an unknown war?

You can so tell this was made before people thought websites were worthwhile. Just look at this pissy FAQ page.

Oh we know, FAQ page, we know.

If you want to become the fifth member of our failed shitposting group, you are welcome to do so. That’s if you can ever pry yourself away from the majestic Round the Twist website.

And to round things off, here’s a bunch of memes I liked that I couldn’t squeeze into the article:
