Dancing with the Stars Australia kicked off this week, with some high-profile celebs dusting off their dance shoes for the coveted Mirrorball trophy. It’s always a little scary seeing non-professional dancers taking on some daring moves I just know that if I attempted anything like that, I’d fall flat on my face.

In fact, during the premiere episode, Home and Away’s Emily Weir encountered that exact problem. During her sultry samba, her dance partner Lyu Masada hit the ground near the start of the routine. But what does his fall mean for their future in the competition? Well, even with that hiccup, they’re still favourites to win.

Let me explain: betting websites like TAB and Sportsbet often allow the public to bet on reality TV show winners. The betting odds reveal who is the most likely to win or lose, and they’ve often been accurate in the past.

Here’s what the Dancing with the Stars odds look like after the first ep:

Likely winner: Home and Away’s Emily Weir.

Even though Emily didn’t walk away with the highest score in Episode 1, her odds are at $1.35 to win, the highest out of all the contestants. I’m guessing she’ll wow the judges with her future routines.

Potential runner-ups: Australian Idol’s Paulini, theatre star Christie Whelan Browne and singer Phil Burton.

There’s a bit of a jump to get to these next stars, Paulini is at odds of $5 to win, while Christie and Phil are on $6 and $7.50 respectively.

Middle of the road: Olympic swimmer James Magnussen, actors Pia Miranda and Virginia Gay, podcast host Laura Byrne and 7NEWS presenter Sally Pearson.

Next, we have James on odds of $10, which is interesting, since his Episode 1 tango was considered “red-hot”, followed by Pia and Virginia with odds of $17, Laura on $21 and Sally on $26.

Likely losers: Better Homes and Gardens’ Charlie Albone, comedian Mary Coustas, The Chase Australia supernerd Issa Schultz, presenter Matt Preston and AFL player Gavin Wanganeen.

At the bottom of the list, we have Charlie and Mary on odds of $34 to win, with Issa, Matt and Gavin trailing on $41, $51 and $67 respectively. Tbh, after Gavin’s “complete disaster” during the premiere episode, this isn’t surprising.

Dancing with the Stars continues on Seven on Sunday at 7.00pm.
