Creepy YouTube Mysteries That’ll Keep You Up At Night
YouTube is undoubtedly one of the most visited sites out there, with a recent study finding that users spend over one billion hours on YouTube videos daily. The range of content is so damn large that even kids are hooked on it: especially Baby Shark and Cocomelon.
But beneath all the glitz and glam there is a much darker side. From wild conspiracy theories to a straight-up missing person case, here are some YouTuber conspiracies and stories that give me the heebie-jeebies.
Kate Yup
A ‘mukbanger’ who gave the MOST eerie vibes…
‘Mukbang’ or ‘Mukbanging’ content can be identified as an eating show where the creator live streams or records themselves eating a large amount of food. Some viewers also enjoy the sounds of the ~crunch~ as mukbang caught on during the tail end of the ASMR wave.
A lot of viewers began to flock to Kate Yup, a ‘mukbanger’ who mainly ate large amounts of seafood. But they weren’t there for the satisfying sounds of slurping, but more for the odd way she shot her videos. There was no music and no talking. She was also seen to be blindfolded or wearing an eye mask.
Although at the start fans thought it was an attempt to protect her identity, many turned and began to speculate that the camera angles used in her videos were for a more sinister reason, including potential abuse. Concerned viewers began to analyse her videos deeply, with some people also believing that she was tapping a morse code for ‘HELP’.
YouTubers began to flood her comments with messages such as ‘I hope you are well’, ‘is everything okay?’ and even one asking her to do a certain action in the next upload if she was in any trouble. In the most popular video on her channel, 2 WHOLE FISH, WHOLE GIANT SQUID, LOBSTER, KING CRAB, SALMON & TUNA RAW ,OCTOPUS, SCALLOP, SHRIMP she responded to the allegations of kidnapping and abuse.
A lot of the viewers saw this comment and were wondering why she was writing in the third person. In the coming videos, users have pleaded for information about her whereabouts and her safety, despite her pinned comment. The last video she ever uploaded was in 2019, where she ate pork brains and seafood.
Since then, a subreddit titled ‘r/Kateyupconspiracy’ is slowly updated with new info on the mukbanger, despite her seemingly leaving the platform for good.
Marina Joyce
Marina Joyce was chucked into the spotlight in 2016 after being pulled into a world of conspiracy theories, but this one has since been solved.
The British YouTuber did a variety of beauty and fashion videos with most of them being hauls and tutorials. She was also super quirky and created some kid-friendly content. However, Marina started making waves in the media after viewers closely observed her shift in attitude in the iconic ‘Cute Outfit Ideas’ video.
Many people who observed her attitude claimed that they heard people whispering in the background telling her what to do. They also commented on her hyperactive behaviour and the way her eyes darted behind the camera. Similar to Kate Yup, some thought she was being held captive but others thought she was just taking illicit drugs.
This MASSIVE conspiracy theory that took the interwebs by storm caused ‘#SaveMarinaJoyce’ to trend at number one worldwide. The rumour was so wild that the Enfield Metropolitan Police Station had to tweet out that Marina was safe.
Officers have visited YouTube user Marina Joyce. She is safe and well. #ETeam #savemarinajoyce

There was even a YouTube channel dedicated to the cause…
In order to put out this shitshow fire, Marina participated in a number of interviews. Eventually in 2017, in a video titled ‘Saving Marina Joyce’, she dropped the bomb on EVERYTHING.
Marina mentioned that at the height of the conspiracy theory she was suffering from mental illness. “My mind was filled with thoughts that were destroying my personality and then it stripped me of my personality, completely.” Marina also has pleaded with fans to not believe any conspiracy theories.
She now is back to normal programming, creating try-on hauls!
Kenny Veach
Kenny Veach was a man who appreciated nature, adventure and technology. He operated under the YouTube channel ‘Snakebitemgee’ which featured his ‘Shark Tank’ invention and a hiking trail that could potentially be known as his resting place.
The ‘M’ cave was known to be really hard to find and was in a very secluded part of Nevada. People who have spelunked there have noticed how hard it is to navigate and locate. The opening of the cave is an ‘M’ hence its name. Kenny Veach made a video on this cave and how he was ‘spooked’ by its vibe.
“It made my body vibrate,” Veach said in his video. In a now-deleted comment under a video titled ‘Area 51 Technician’s Son Discloses Secret Alternative Energy’, he continued to talk about his weird experiences surrounding the cave.
In November 2014, it was discovered that he had gone missing while looking for the M cave once more. Local news source, 3 News reports “Kenny Veach, 47, has been missing since Nov. 10. He told his family he was going to hike in the mountains and planned to return two days later. He has not returned.”
A lot of conspiracy theorists believe that his disappearance was something relating to aliens, the US government, or mental health. His body was never found and is still considered missing today.
As I fall down into the rabbit hole of these YouTubers, I constantly think about how everyone documents their life online but one day they can just disappear. Absolutely spine-chilling.
