Zac Efron Has Revealed Why He Looks Different To His ‘High School Musical’ Days
Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron has revealed the reason why his face looks so different, aka jaw-gate, and the story behind it is so gut-wrenching.
To give you a little context on my childhood crush, Zac rose to stardom after he snagged the male lead role in Disney’s High School Musical. Since then, the actor has gone on to star in other iconic movies, including 17 Again, Hairspray, The Greatest Showman and many more. Zac also made huge waves in the Aussie scene after he move to Byron Bay, and we all thought we had a chance with him.
But anyways, onto the explainer of jaw-gate. 👀
Fans noticed a ‘uuge change in his physical appearance after he jumped in a video for Bill Nye’s Earth Day! The Musical back in April 2021.
Even though the video was on a very important topic (climate change, duh!) a lot of people couldn’t help but notice Zac’s jaw in the video. Some people went online and wrote nasty things about his new look, and even made assumptions about plastic surgery.

But lots of his fans rallied together to support the High School Musical star and his new look.

Even after all of these comments, jokes, and memes, Zac never responded and/or explained his new look until now.
The actor has now given a candid interview with Men’s Health, with the article detailing how the actor slipped and shattered his jaw. “He’d been running through the house in socks and slipped, smacking his chin against the granite corner of a fountain. He lost consciousness, and when he woke up, he recalls, his chin bone hanging off his face.”
OUCH. FRKN OUCH. I can just imagine the pain!!!
Within the article, Zac also spoke about how his masseter muscles (the ones used for chewing) got huge after he took a break from physical therapy, which he received after he was injured. “They just got really, really big,” the star said.
Zac also claimed that he was unaware of jaw-gate and that his mother was the one who brought it to his attention, after she asked if he had work done via a phone call. He also mentions that he avoids social media, but acknowledges it for its usefulness when he needs to promote things he’s passionate about.
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do,” Zac said, “I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
Since the whole social media fiasco of Zac and his jaw, it seems like the star has fully recovered from his painful injury.
But regardless of any changes Zac would make, he’s still a mega heartthrob in my eyes! ALSO he recently posted a pic of him outside of East High, AKA the high school in High School Musical.
I demand a reunion with the OG cast NOW.
