Australian Idol has just dropped the first glimpse at the Channel 7 revival, and tbh, I am ready to ugly cry over a singing competition.

The reality TV competition show announced its return earlier this year, and it honestly felt like the 2000s were truly back. For those who have never seen Australian Idol, it is a reality TV singing competition where musos from all across Australia compete to be the next big thing. The original show had a mobile phone voting system where viewers could save their faves from elimination every week.

The show has birthed many Aussie music icons, including Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Jessica Mauboy and many more.

In the 2023 reboot, Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr will join Kyle Sandilands on the journey to find the next Australian Idol, alongside Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie, who will be hosting the show.

Australian Idol also announced that OG judge Marcia Hines will make an appearance as a guest judge.

Australian Idol just released its first look at the 2023 revamp, including a snippet of the first round of auditions and contestants.

Watch the first look at Australian Idol below:

First up, the trailer was super emotional. From the happy crying to the dramatic cover of ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna…why do I feel like crying?

Judging by the trailer, it seems like this version of Australian Idol will focus on the contestants and the stories behind the music. The Australian Idol judges are seen popping up at contestant’s homes and their places of work.

We also catch a glimpse of the first auditions with the iconic Australian Idol audition wallpaper in the background. In one of the scenes Amy professes her love for one of the contestants, saying “So um, I’m in love with you. It’s bit of an age thing and I’m married. So we’ve got hurdles.”Another contestant gets Meghan to fangirl during their audition.

Alongside all the excitement from the judges, there were a lot of happy tears and NGL, it got me super hyped for this reboot, but I wish we saw Marcia Hines.

Australian Idol is set to air in January 2023, so I’ll guess we’ll have to wait for Marcia’s arrival.

Fingers crossed the show keeps the bad auditions in — just for the shits and gigs!

Australian Idol returns to Channel 7 and 7Plus in January 2023.
