Move over George, because Hayley has become the new hero of Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn after last night’s impressive blindside turned the game on its head.

Up until this point, Hayley has been somewhat of a nobody in the game. Overshadowed by big players like Puppet Master Joey and King of Bankstown George, most of the Brains tribe haven’t had much screentime. But that all changed last night when Pain Researcher Hayley conspired against her tribe’s kingpin and blindsided him in an epic Tribal Council.

The episode picked up immediately following on from the emotional Tribal where Cara selflessly played her immunity idol for George leading to her elimination — or so we thought. Horrifyingly jumping on the sleeping Brawn tribe in the middle of the night, Brawn learned that their previous rival Cara was now playing with them.

The next day, back on the unsuspecting Brains tribe, George — still dressed like a Russian grandmother in mourning — confronted Puzzle Master Wai about her betrayal the night prior. Clearly not seeing that she had just been used by Joey and the majority alliance, Wai stood by her decision and noted that she made the right choice in proudly joining the bottom of a majority that now had no use for her. Yikes.

Pushing all of the drama and backstabbing aside, the Brains tribe did actually somehow manage to work together to finally secure a Reward Challenge win after a 15-day dry spell. Despite the challenge being yet another task purely focused on strength, Brawn lost the opportunity to chow down on BBQ after Wood Chopper Gerald dropped his water-filled barrels first, which put a massive target on his back.

However, this protein boost didn’t help the Brains tribe out much as they still managed to lose the Immunity Challenge — but not before there was a physical struggle for an Immunity Idol that was placed at the end of the course. With Gerald feeling the pressure, alongside George who was very aware that his entire team hated him, both boys abandoned their teams mid-challenge and ran to search for the idol. But, in a surprise to everyone, Hayley joined the search and managed to secure the coveted immunity idol.

Then came Hayley’s amazing gameplay. While Joey smugly returned to camp thinking he would finally be able to boot out King George, Hayley had other plans. Knowing that this was the one chance the group had to take out the head of the snake, Hayley quietly conspired against her majority alliance and banded with the misfits to blindside Joey — all without using her idol.

Strategically choosing to not tell George until the very last minute to avoid any plan-ruining outbursts from the political spin-doctor, Hayley mouthed the word “Joey” to George while the rest of the tribe were distracted at Tribal. And with that, Hayley was successfully able to pull off one of the series best blindsides with four votes to Joey against George’s three.

With that move, along with the fact that she previously defeated MMA Champ Chelsea in a physical challenge and beat Surfer Flick in a balance one, Hayley has quickly dethroned King George as Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn fan favourite.

And even though there is an upcoming merge that’s likely going to shake up the game once again, Survivor fans are still reeling over Hayley’s impressive and savage blindside of Joey.

Honestly, shout out to the producers Macedonian Jesus for coming to save reality TV gold, George, once again.

Australian Survivor returns tonight at 7:30pm on Channel 10.
