It’s Time The Best Bachy Love Story Of 2020 Gets The Attention It Deserves

Not all love stories are created equal on reality TV, and this year we saw some of the most underwhelming seasons of Married At First Sight, The Bachelor, and The Bachelorette on record.

It’s safe to say the contrived drama took away from the shine of the real love stories blossoming on these shows, and fans of the franchises found it hard to get sucked into Elly and Becky Miles’ love stories, as well as Locky Gilbert’s. And, well, we’re already used to the low success rate of MAFS couples, so that wasn’t new to us, so let’s focus solely on Bachy.

It’s worth noting this year’s leading man of The Bachelor, Locky Gilbert, is still going strong with his chosen winner Irena Srbinovska, but his season was tainted by COVID-19, Zoom lockdown dates, and the fact he professed his love to both his final two.

The Bachelorette was also cut short by the pandemic, but the double twist of bringing two sisters together to find love didn’t pay off. The five-week season felt too short for any proper love stories to blossom, the men seemed to be in it only to find fame, and both Becky and Elly have split with their winners – Becky a mere few days after filming wrapped, and Elly announced recently that she and Frazer had also parted ways.

Bachelor in Paradise was a silver lining when it returned to our screens in July this year – but was also tainted by the toxic misogyny displayed by Ciarran Stott and Timm Hanly. However, it did have huge winning moments, like the strong female friendships forged on the show, THAT Renee and Alisha moment, and two love stories blossomed from the series that are STILL going strong to this day.

Which brings me to…. drum roll please… it’s time to finally shoutout the BEST Bachy love story from this year and give it the attention it deserves.

I am, of course, talking about Mary Viturino and Conor Canning.

From the moment ‘Cleanskin’ Conor walked into paradise, he and Mary struck up a friendship before it blossomed into something more. Mary declared her rose for Conor wasn’t a “friendship rose” at one of the Bula Banquets, and from there they were Paradise’s new couple.

The only problem? We barely got to see ANY of their love story evolve from this moment!

Don’t get me wrong, we saw a couple of cute scenes: Mary teaching Conor to dance was one of them.

But for the two lovebirds, we didn’t get to witness their deeper connection form on any single dates, with other couples like Alisha and Glenn, along with Renee and Matt getting more attention on the show.

Was it because Mary and Conor didn’t have any drama or backstory to delve into? Maybe. Yet by the time the final episodes rolled around, we knew these two were serious – but we didn’t know they were in LOVE serious, until they dropped it on each other in a very cute moment.

And then, of course, their final commitment ceremony after they met each other’s family and friends was just too damn sweet.

After the finale aired, Mary confirmed she had moved to Hobart with her daughter to be with Conor, after they had spent Christmas together in 2019.

And it wasn’t too much later that the couple then announced they had a Bachy baby on the way!

With Mary often joking about finding a baby daddy on the show, fans were thrilled that this love story really did come true for her after all.

So a special shoutout to Mary and Conor – they may not have gotten the full attention they deserved on the show, but they are up there with the God-tier Bachy couples that have come before them. We love LOVE!
