Every so often, a movie comes along that is so bad, so baffling, so straight-up nonsensical, that it’s actually art. I’m calling it: Netflix’s erotic thriller Deadly Illusions belongs in this special category.

The movie is bonkers. The trailer in itself is just an absolute rollercoaster.

For a movie that’s so badly written, it features a surprisingly impressive cast. The movie is led by Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis as a successful crime novelist Mary, with rom-com king Dermot Mulroney playing her husband Tom. But the actress who truly steals the show is Greer Grammer, as the couple’s young, mysterious and alluring nanny, Grace.

Grace is hired to help out with Mary and Tom’s young children, after Mary agrees to write another instalment in her successful book series in an effort to get her family out of financial strife.

Of course, like all good thrillers, all is not what it seems. Grace becomes obsessed with Mary, they begin an affair, and the lines between reality and fiction start to blur.

Deadly Illusions is A LOT, but aside from the bizarre acting (the way Mary smoked a cigar sent me!!) and the unpredictable plot, the movie includes some pretty decent sex scenes, reminiscent of Netflix’s 365 Days. But much like the horny Polish film, Deadly Illusions doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Viewers are deeply confused by this new Netflix thriller and the tweets are too good.
