Duncan Said He’d Be Keen To Marry Evelyn From ‘MAFS’
It wasn’t reality TV’s best-kept secret when Duncan James and Evelyn Ellis of Married at First Sight fame announced their relationship earlier this month.
Rumours had be swirling about the good-looking pair for months, sparking from the moment they were each other’s partners in MAFS‘ couple-swap experiment. The pair recently confirmed they had been dating since before the MAFS finale aired, first noticing their friendship was maybe more than platonic at a Mardi Gras event.
“Mardi Gras is a pretty big event in Sydney, and we were having a bit of a dance together,” Duncan told Fitzy & Wippa With Kate Ritchie last week. “Nothing even happened that night, but that was the first night that we’d spent a little bit of time together as friends and realised that maybe there was something more there.”
And since their romance was confirmed, the genetically blessed pair hopped on the media circuit, popping into Channel Nine’s Today Extra to talk more about their relationship.
When David Campbell asked the couple if they’d consider getting married in a televised event, like 2019 golden couple Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson, Duncan didn’t hesitate to answer.
“Yeah, I’m keen!” he said, before the hosts suggested MAFS expert John Aiken could help officiate, while Evelyn looked less than excited.
The two elaborated more on their time together, talking about the creative ways they got to know each other while keeping the relationship private, with Evelyn citing they really got to know each other while playing board games.
“When we were starting to date without anyone knowing about it, you’ve got to come up with very interesting ways of trying to do fun things,” Duncan said.
“So whether it was on the back of the motorbike and going down to some secluded beaches, we did a few boat days – I’ve got my boat license – or whether it was games inside my unit that I’d come up with!”
The two admitted to finding each other good-looking when they first laid eyes on each other during the experiment, but both were focused on trying to make their own respective relationships work.
“For me, I was trying to work on my relationship at the time, and try and see if it was the right one and it obviously wasn’t.”
“Most of our castmates said ‘we saw this coming before you guys even did,'” Evelyn said on the relationship, before Duncan confirmed Evelyn’s ex Rupert was supportive of the relationship, while he hasn’t had “much” contact with ex-“wife” Alyssa.
