‘Drivers License’ Protagonist Joshua Bassett Is ‘Figuring Out’ His Sexuality

Just when you thought the saga was over, Joshua Bassett (aka the boy that the song ‘Drivers License’ is about) has come out as queer in a social media post.

Yesterday, Joshua Bassett went viral after talking about Harry Styles in an interview with Clevver News. “I think he’s a nice guy, doesn’t say too much, but when he talks it matters… He’s just cool. Also he’s hot. You know? He’s very charming too. Lot’s of things. I guess, this is also my coming out video,” he laughs.

After this video did the rounds on social media, it was wrongfully reported by some media outlets that Joshua Bassett was “not queer”.

Joshua Bassett Makes A Statement

After stories were redacted, Joshua took to his own social media to confirm that he is currently “figuring out” his sexuality. In a statement, he said:

“(For) my entire life people have told me my sexuality,” Joshua Bassett said. “People have shamed me for things they know nothing about. I want to say thank you to those of you who stand for love and acceptance. Toxicity, hatred, and negativity say less about the subject, but say far more about those who spew it.”

Joshua Bassett continued, “It’s 2021. we are the generation of love & growth, it’s time we start acting like it. Whether you love me, hate me, or damn me to hell, I love you all the same. Love who you love shamelessly. It’s ok to still be figuring out who you are. Life’s too short to let ignorance and hatred win. I choose love.”

Safe to say, the Internet has flooded his comments section with heaps of love and support and we truly love to see it.

Now, excuse me for a minute while I listen to ‘drivers license’ and ‘deja vu’ on repeat to experience the story one more time. Suddenly, the line ‘watching reruns of Glee’ hits a little differently now.
