Bryce Ruthven has made a lot of questionable choices on this season of Married at First Sight, but none have infuriated viewers or his fellow contestants quite like his decision to write “leave” on Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, only to then scribble that out and vote “stay”.

It was a choice made purely for the drama of it all. Bryce claimed that he was considering leaving because Rebecca Zemek had been allegedly “bullying” his partner, Melissa Rawson. But this argument starts to collapse when we learn that Bryce did not tell Melissa about his plans, so he blindsided the person he claimed he was protecting.

It just made no sense, as all Bryce did was humiliate Melissa, who he’d already just embarrassed on the experts’ couch, after he didn’t reciprocate her feelings that she was falling in love with him.

Viewers reactions ranged from people furious with Bryce, to others who have gotten to a stage where absolutely nothing this man does surprises us anymore. The always charming Matty J has given his viewpoint on Bryce’s bizarre commitment ceremony vote, posting a funny MAFS skit to Instagram from the perspective of an on-set assistant.

In the short skit, the assistant notices that Bryce (aka Matty in a hilarious bad blonde wig) had made “a mistake”, writing down “leave” before changing his response to “stay” — so to remedy this, he offers Bryce a fresh piece of paper. Bryce doesn’t take the new paper, replying, “Nah, it’s alright”. To this, Matty replies, “You know, Melissa’s going to see that, right? And then all of Australia is going to see that as well?”.

Matty’s version of Bryce is apathetic about the whole thing, and yep, that sounds about right.
