Huge ‘MAFS’ Dweeb Harrison Just Gave A Lesson In Gaslighting 101
I know what you’re thinking. A man on Married at First Sight gaslighting someone? Shocking! Never seen before on TV! All the men are usually so well-behaved!
From Dean Wells and Sam Ball to Mike Gunner (that weirdo who was awful to the sunny, beautiful Heidi Latcham), Married at First Sight has had its share of atrocious behaviour by men. And while MAFS is addictive and fun dramatic TV, every season manages to shine a light on what insidious, manipulative and gaslighting behaviour looks like in everyday relationships.
It can be helpful viewing at times, especially when the experts actually call it out, but it can also be deeply triggering.
During the first MAFS dinner party, most of the couples seemed fairly loved-up post-honeymoon with a few exceptions: Jesse and Claire aren’t doing so well, and neither are Harrison and Bronte, who have been tested with drama from the start of their relationship.
Things kicked off when Harrison was forced to explain what happened at their now infamous wedding: you know, the whole sitch where that chick from The Bachelors came in, dropped the bomb that Harrison was seeing someone on the outside, then sailed off into the sunset.
As the story did the rounds during the dinner party, Harrison tried to get on the front foot, playing the victim. It’s just a shame their wedding day was ruined by someone else, you know? Not his problem! He didn’t do anything wrong!
Fans of MAFS weren’t having a bar of Harrison’s tangled web of lies:
How can Harrison afford this much gaslighting with the way energy prices are right now? #mafs #mafsau

"Gaslighting" gets thrown around a lot now but fuck me dead didn't Harrison just give us a front row seat to it in action#MAFS #MAFSAU

Ahhh yes the 20 year old woman was manipulating 32 year old Harrison into not cutting her off before he went on a reality show to get married? #mafs #mafsau
— Ira Snave (@IraSnave) February 6, 2023
You just know Harrison is a two minute brother who jackhammers, and that’s why he dates 20 year olds because they don’t know enough yet to know he’s nothing good #MAFS

Harrison: “who I was before this show shouldn’t matter”
Do you mean…the one whole week before this show? #MAFSAU #MAFS pic.twitter.com/h9Fvr9UAMM— Leanne Aston (@LeanneAston1) February 6, 2023
Harrison’s toxicity is so potent I feel like we should be harnessing it to power hospitals or run the train network for major cities or something. #mafs #mafsau

Then Melinda came in, calling bullshit on Harrison and his story and it was, well, iconic:
Melinda hasn’t been a fan favourite after her early judgements about her husband Layton, but boy did she come through and read Harrison to absolute filth. We have no choice but to stan!
Finally Melinda finally using her powers for good and not evil #MAFSAU #MAFSAustralia #mafs pic.twitter.com/aKOJPdWMBj

Not the biggest Melinda fan so far but she's absolutely 100% spot on about Harrison.
Her attitude towards guys like Harrison is spot on.
Her logical thinking about bullshit stories is spot on.#MAFS #MAFSAU pic.twitter.com/nOodF8ekx3

Things got dire though when Harrison decided to take his frustration out on Bronte, demanding that she needs to ‘prove herself’ to him???
Yep, to escape the heat, Harrison decided to gaslight Bronte, demanding she prove her commitment to him after she’s put some clear boundaries up.
Must we remind you, Harrison has a) had a girl on the outside that he didn’t end things with properly before coming into the show, b) tried to gaslight Bronte at the wedding after she confronted him about this, and c) told Bronte that he wasn’t attracted to her after sleeping with her.
It makes perfect sense Bronte has her walls up because of this behaviour. Yet last night, Harrison decided she wasn’t proving to him that she was 100% in.
The! Audacity!
Harrison: “I feel like I’m the only one in this relationship putting in effort”
Also Harrison: “I am not attracted to you”. #MAFS #MAFSAU— Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (@LeahJayK) February 6, 2023
Watching Harrison gaslight bronte so casually is so triggering #MAFS #MAFSAU

“You’d checked out emotionally” says Harrison, shifting the blame/responsibility onto Bronte. Even though he was the one who avoided communication and withdrew after they slept together. #MAFS #MAFSAU

#MAFS Ep6. Dinner party. Harrison (who was living his best single life with multiple women just before getting married) asks Bronte to prove her commitment to him b/c her wanting space after he told her he wasn't attracted to her wasn't good enough. #MAFSAU

Harrison is such a gaslighter… telling Bronte to *prove* she wants to be with him… WTF ? #MAFSAU #MAFS #MAFSAUS #MAFSAustralia

Couldn’t have summarised things better myself, tbh.
If Jesse and Harrison are a sign of what’s out there, I really feel for all the single women in Australia #MAFS
