Because Married at First Sight drama never sleeps — even in the early hours of the morning — groom Jesse Burford got into a war of words with a cohost on Today Extra earlier this week.

Jesse joined hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys on Tuesday’s episode of Today Extra to debrief on the cheating storyline that unfolded on this week’s episodes, which saw Jesse’s wife Claire Nomarhas admit she had kissed another groom, Adam Seed, on a night out.

The interview started off amicably enough, as Jesse offered some pretty low energy responses as the hosts attempted to get him to engage in the drama between himself and Adam which played out this week.

The mood shifted when David questioned how Jesse himself may have been responsible for Claire’s cheating. Jesse was left baffled, and asked for the question to be rephrased. David then went off, telling the groom “Let me put it this way, we watched you on the show give your list of icks, shush [Claire], kind of ignore her,” as the hosts relayed some of the events of the honeymoon. “Where’s your responsibility?”

Jesse was laughing and scoffing as the Today host spoke, then hit back that he had heard David refer to him as a “walking red flag,” during other interviews with MAFS contestants.

Watch the argument between David and Jesse play out below:

I mean, I get it! But is now the time to kick Jesse when he’s already down?! And should victims of cheaters be blamed for their spouse’s wandering eye?! That’s a slippery slope, tbh!

Jesse went on to defend his MAFS edit which emphasised his list of icks in women. “Let me tell you about ‘the ick’. I’m glad you’ve given me the opportunity [to respond]. That was something that the show really exaggerated. I don’t care that Claire is into star signs or crystals. Good for her!” Jesse said.

“I’m not going to completely write her off as a person or a partner because she’s into something that I’m not.”

He then defended shushing Claire. “I wasn’t rude, I was actually pretty kind about it, [I was] just raising her awareness like ‘I think we need to use our inside voice.’ Now all of a sudden I’m this misogynist who shushes all women — it’s ridiculous, mate.”

The interview ended on a chilled note with David thanking Jesse for appearing on the show. Friends forever? I doubt it!
