After being spoon-fed a steady stream of relationship drama for eight weeks straight, we MAFS fans have been left to starve, with only a few updates about what the brides and grooms are up to now.

Luckily, MAFS daddy AKA relationship expert John Aiken has stepped in and filled our Married At First Sight void with some juicy goss about who his favourite participants were from this year’s season.

Naturally, one would assume that John would take credit for his spectacular pairings, which ended with just two couples still standing from the original batch of twelve. But it turns out that John isn’t biased, as he named three participants — all who left the show single — as his golden children.

“I enjoyed Jesse because he was layered,” John told 9Now“He did things he regretted early on and then he started to become a different guy later on. He and I both have a love for heavy metal, so we bonded over that. He was someone who had a layered sort of experience in the experiment and you saw different sides of him.”

While Jesse certainly needs the support from John, considering he had to endure being cheated on and lied to during the experiment, the relationship expert’s next fave is a bit of a surprise.

“I also loved Harrison and what he brought to the experiment,” he said.

During his time on MAFS, Harrison belittled other contestants, gaslit his wife and was, really, just a bit of a douchebag. Thankfully, John’s justification of why he liked Harrison did acknowledge his controversial behaviour.

“He and I had a lot of tense exchanges which I really enjoyed,” he explained. “You could go hard at him and he could go hard at you. You had to be on your A game to hold him accountable and I found that exciting.”

The relationship expert then went down a rabbit hole when it came to his interactions with the MAFS bad boy. “He’s a guy who is unapologetic, charismatic, and opinionated so when I dealt with him he would challenge me and I liked that.”

He continued, “The whole time I dealt with him, we had a very honest interaction. He went hard at me and I went hard at him.”

“He told me one time I was ‘full of bulls–t’. He was at times combative but it was refreshing to have someone who would keep you on your toes and make you explain yourself and what you were trying to get him to see.”

Circling back around to his final favourite, John listed straight-shooting model Evelyn Ellis.

“I also loved watching Evelyn call people out. She was outspoken but she had a wonderful way of talking about how she felt and making people accountable for their poor behaviour,” he concluded.

I may be going out on a limb here, but John’s top picks seem to support the theory that MAFS is all about drama, not true, lasting love. Imagine that!
