INVESTIGATION: When Will The ‘MAFS’ Cast Get Their Instagrams Back?
The words MAFS and maths may have a similar way of rolling off the tongue, but they’re not typically words that would ever be used in the same sentence. That is unless you’re trying to figure out when this year’s Married At First Sight participants get control of their own social media accounts again, which is exactly what we’re doing.
A casual fan probably knows that this year’s brides and grooms have been uploading photos throughout the season with posts showing stills of their time on the show. However, it’s been established that these pics are typically chosen by producers who carefully vet the captions, which are submitted by the contestants themselves.
Even Josh confirmed it in his Reddit AMA as he spilled that “The cast write them [the captions]. Social team approve or make suggested edits. CASE CLOSED,” he succinctly stated.
Now that the show is over, fans can gear up for the next, much more salacious instalment of drama which historically has featured clout-chasing reality stars who aren’t ready for their 15 minutes to be up. The same dance takes place every year — and after most popular reality shows — as contestants regain control of their social media and air out hampers full of dirty laundry.
The exact date of when MAFS participants will have control of their social media accounts again hasn’t officially been revealed. However, we’ve done a deep dive into when last year’s brides and grooms regained access and done the maths on when this year’s contestants can be expected to return to their social feeds.
We’ve investigated when the Married at First Sight contestants will get their Instagram and TikTok back:
When did last year’s contestants regain control of their socials?
While producers assign photos for the cast to caption and then upload throughout the season, Instagram Stories are off limits. The first Instagram story to be shared after last season was by the breakout star Domenica Calarco, who is now starring on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Outta Here.
She posted an image of herself and ex on-screen husband Jack Millar cuddled up with their dogs on 11 April, 2022. But it was later revealed that on this date, contestants still had to submit content to their producers and could only upload if it was approved.
The cast regained full control of their social media accounts on 27 April, 2022. In the following days, Jack, Olivia, Ella, Brent, Tamara, Selina, Matt, Anthony, Holly and Jessica all shared photos and videos that were unrelated to MAFS.
Do the dates line up for this year’s contestants to regain access soon?
The air dates for the season of MAFS were very similar to last season. Season 9 premiered on 31 January, 2022, and Season 10 aired on 30 January 30, 2023. This year’s season wrapped a day earlier than last season on 3 April, 2023.
Just tell me when I can watch the MAFS drama unfold on Instagram and TikTok!
If our calculations are correct — and the participants have the same social restrictions and rules as last year — MAFS fans should be able to get producer-approved content from contestants on 10 April, 2023. Then the shackles should be completely removed on 26 April, 2023, allowing the brides and grooms full control of their socials.
This is just over two weeks until we can expect the Instagram beefs and TikTok spill seshes to begin! Mark your calendars!
