MEET THE MEMELORDS: Diving Into The FB Page ‘Where My Shrimps’
Today for Meet The Memelords, we’re going behind the scenes of my personal favourite meme page of all time – ‘Where My Shrimps’
‘Where My Shrimps’ is a personal quest by someone trying to find where his/her shrimps (yes, shrimps) have disappeared to.
I’ve tried explaining the concept of this page to others in the past and I’m usually met with some confusing looks. As the name suggests, it’s a very, very strange page.
The Facebook page tends to create more questions than answers…
- Why is this person looking for shrimp?
- Who took the shrimp?
- How many shrimp does he/she have?
- Is shrimps even a word?
- Why am I so obsessed with this page?

Since being created in 2016, the page has built up a following of over 100,000 shrimpheads and it’s only growing. The more time you spend on ‘Where My Shrimps’ the more you begin to dive deeper into this shrimp loving community.
You start to quickly learn that shrimps aren’t the only sea creature in this equation. A vast majority of memes on the page are dedicated to crabbos (crabs) and lobbos (lobsters)…. The arch enemy of the shrimps. Here’s an example of a classic ‘Lobbo hate meme’:

After digging a little further I discovered the page also links to a Soundcloud group called ‘Shrimp Money Records’. These guys make emotional raps about yep you guessed it, trying to find those damn shrimps.
Check out the emotional song below and tell me it doesn’t make you cry.
The last known sighting of the shrimps seems to be 6 months ago during a Facebook shrimp giveaway. 473 were put up for adoption to Facebook users. However, they haven’t been found ever since 🙁
I did warn you – the more you learn about this confusing place – the more you questions you have.
Still not convinced with the dedication of the community towards their cause? The admins even started a petition fighting for a live shrimp emoji to be created.
The petition reads:
“I think there should be a live shrimp emoji, not just a cooked shrimp. There are other wildlife emojis that are also used as food if chosen to be ate. Shrimp should be viewed as a living organism rather than just food.”
Unfortunately, the petition only received 200/500 signatures…. So phone shrimp emojis are staying pretty dead – for now…
With our growing disorientation, confusion and love for this page cooking up like a shrimp on the barbie – we couldn’t help but reach out to the memelords behind it to see if there was any possible clarity to be had.
Here’s what we found out.
How long have you been running ‘Where My Shrimps’ for and what was the reason you started the page?
Early 2016 – and because the page ‘Orange Memes’ posted a picture, the same pic which is/was our original cover photo
How many admins are there and where are you based?
We have around 23 admins/editors at the moment, we aren’t really based anywhere since our admins are from a lot of different places.

Where do you get the inspiration behind each post? What will happen when you eventually find your shrimps?
Well, sometimes we discuss bigger “meme plans” in the groupchat with the rest of the team, sometimes we get in contact with our pages and discuss joint meme ventures. Smaller posts usually come from sudden individual idea bursts. No one knows what will happen when we find our shrimps, that goal is still so far away, even after 105k likes 🙁

Can you please explain the difference between Lobbos and Shrimps and why they hate each other so much.
Lobbos (lobsters) are the enemy of shrimps. The official backstory is that a lobbo had sex with a shrimp while he was on holiday in Greece

You’ve cracked 105K likes – did you ever think the page would come this far? And what are the plans for the future?
Honestly? I never thought we would get this far. Back in the old days we were freaking out when we saw how fast we were growing. We got to 5k likes in no time and we thought we would never get past 60k. But it just kept growing and growing.
Obviously our main goal for the future is to find our shrimps, but aside from that, we also want to make people laugh and have fun. There is also gonna be a new Yung Tempura album somewhere in the future.

I recently discovered your Shrimp Money Records music label, what sort of connection does it have with Where My Shrimps?
Shrimp Money Records started first when one of our main admins, who has been on the boat since around 800 likes, decided to make a shrimp rap track.
The results we got from the people liking the page were amazing, so he kept making weird rap tracks about shrimps and soon enough found other underground rappers who liked silly rap about shrimps.
Today Shrimp Money Records has been kinda established as an underground rap label, featuring 13 underground rap and hip hop artists with worldwide digital releases on Spotify, Itunes, Amazon and the likes. It’s deeply connected with Where My Shrimps, as the founder is one of the main admins and each artist has been knowing the page for ages.

Do you have any interesting stories to tell about Where My Shrimps?
Without going too personal, one of our admins found a girlfriend through the Where My Shrimps admin team. There was also this one time where we got featured by the Daily Dot because our page got stolen due to weak Facebook security. There really is some cool shit going on behind the scenes but putting all of it into words would be impossible.
