Billy Ray Cyrus has tied the knot with Aussie singer Firerose and while that’s all well and lovely, there’s a LOT to unpack when it comes to wider Cyrus dramas.
The first evidence of a feud running through the family surfaced in April 2022, after Tish filed for divorce (for a second time) from Billy Ray. Miley, Brandi and Trace appeared to be on their mum Tish’s side, while younger siblings Noah and Braison seem closer with their dad, Billy Ray.
Rumours have it that those on Team Tish don’t approve of Billy Ray’s relationship with Firerose and there’s a good reason.
Billy Ray is 62, Firerose is 34 and the pair met on the set of Hannah Montana 12 years ago – when Firerose was just 22. The Aussie singer has also been open about how Billy Ray is her “longtime pal and mentor”. Yep, there’s a power dynamic here that I’m not thrilled about.

Who is Firerose, Billy Ray’s new wife?
Johanna Rosie Hodges, known now as Firerose, was born in Sydney and attended the Newtown School for the Performing Arts. She moved to Los Angeles, California when she was older to launch her music career.
After Firerose had an unsuccessful audition for a show on the Disney Channel, she went over to say hello to Billy Ray’s dog, Tex. “She told me she’d had an audition and I said, ‘Well I’m sure you got the job’,” Billy Ray told People. “I just thought, well, the casting agents, the producers, the writers, they’re all on the floor of where we do Hannah Montana.”
The country singer offered to show Firerose around set and introduce her to some of the crew, telling her: “You can kind of make yourself at home and watch us rehearse and you know, maybe it might lead to a role or just another contact at Disney.”
Firerose and Billy Ray’s professional relationship started in 2021 after the ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer featured on her single ‘New Day’. The couple didn’t seem to confirm any romance rumours until August 2022, when Firerose shared a selfie on Instagram for Billy Ray’s birthday.

Billy Ray then popped the question in August 2022 in a no-nonsense type of way. “Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’ And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you’,” Firerose told People. “He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever’.”
The couple have since released three more musical collaborations, ‘Time’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Plans’.
Why do people think Noah Cyrus has chosen Billy Ray Cyrus over Tish Cyrus?
After Tish filed for divorce in April 2022, some people noticed that Noah, her youngest daughter with Billy Ray, no longer followed Tish. Sleuthing fans went one step further and deduced that Noah had actually blocked Tish.
“They don’t follow each other anymore, the pics of Noah on Tish’s page the tags don’t show up anymore – which happens when someone blocks you,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
In May 2023, Noah dedicated a post on Instagram to Tish for her birthday, but the caption was certainly a choice. “Happy birthday to my beautiful mother… no matter what I will always love you,” she wrote.

When Tish married actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023, Noah and Braison were absent from the wedding and chose to upload selfies together on Instagram instead. Noah even donned a Billy Ray tee, a not-so-subtle way of showing where her loyalties lie.
In September 2023, Billy Ray and Firerose shared a snap posing with Noah after watching her perform. “You absolutely crushed it Noah Cyrus!” Billy Ray wrote in the caption. “The show was amazing and you have a killer band!”
How have Trace, Brandi and Miley Cyrus shown their support for Tish Cyrus?
Miley has been super supportive of her mum’s new relationship with Dominic Purcell, helping him plan the proposal and hosted their wedding at her Malibu home.
“Dom, along with Miley, planned the entire thing,” Tish told Vogue, saying the proposal took place over Thanksgiving in 2022. “They knew we would all be together as a family and thought it would be the perfect time!”

The couple tied the knot in August 2023 and maid of honour Miley walked Tish down the aisle during the ceremony. Trace and Brandi were also involved in the wedding party.
“To see my mum this happy and in love is very emotional for me,” Miley said at the time. “Dom and my mum share the sweetest, most genuine love. It’s almost like it’s for the first time, which is so fitting for my mum who is such a young soul.”
