Did Selena Gomez Just Accidentally Leak Her Own Engagement?
There I was on my lunch break, scrolling mindlessly through Instagram, swiping through stories, and BAM. I stopped in my tracks and pressed my excited little thumb down on the screen so I could get a proper look.
What I saw was a rare treat: a selfie of Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.
These don’t come around too often, so when they do I get a little endorphin rush seeing these two besties thriving. BUT HOLD ON, what’s this I can see in the photo? I zoom into Selena’s hand that is wedged between her in her Clueless-esque outfit and Ms. Swift’s hip.
Is that an engagement ring?!

On her finger is a gold wraparound ring featuring some sort of stone and what looks like a gold ‘B’. And you can bet I checked if I had the right hand in mind with all the mirroring, and I do. That’s her ring finger. For sure.
For those who haven’t read my last article on Selena Gomez (it’s okay, I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed), you need to know the significance of the ‘B’. You see, Selena recently hard launched her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco. She shared a picture featuring Benny (well, featuring his arm and chin) and fans put two and two together before heavily criticising Selena for her choice in fella.
They weren’t chuffed with her choice as Benny made some choice comments about “cookie-cutter pop artists” who put out a “makeup line” in the same week that Selena launched Rare Beauty.
Fans started dropping comments on coverage of their relationship and Selena – who is usually pretty quiet on socials – started replying to fans defending Benny. In those clapbacks she’s dropped some big compliments, saying, “he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with,” he’s “better than any human being on this planet” and “he is my absolute everything in my heart”.

Sounds pretty serious, right? Well, I thought like maybe a couple months of dating kinda serious, but perhaps it’s more than that, and we’re already at the engagement stage.
Please excuse me while I really read into this, but surely this has to be an announcement of some kind. I know she’s also wishing her friend Taylor a happy birthday, but surely she has tens of thousands of photos of her and Taylor she could choose from? Why would she pick this one unless she wanted everyone to see that sneaky little ‘B’ on her finger and freak out?
My theory is that she wants to be low-key about the engagement because she’s not a massive oversharer in the first place, but also because there was such a rubbish reaction from her fans about who she was dating. So even though she’s sure in her decision to marry Benny Blanco, she doesn’t want to flash the announcement about in a press-release-ey manner. Instead, she seized the opportunity to make a post seemingly about her buddy Taylor, all the while subtly telling the world that she’s a fiancé.
Obviously, I have reached out to Selena to confirm, but it’s Selena Gomez, so I’m not optimistic about getting a reply. If I do, though, you’ll be the first to know!
