Matty J And Laura Byrne From ‘The Bachelor’ Are Feuding With Clementine Ford

Author Clementine Ford has started a messy feud with The Bachelor’s Matty J and his wife Laura Byrne

It all kicked off when Matty J shared a somewhat cringe video on Instagram about having to take care of the household while Laura was away for work, or you know, just being a parent.

In the skit, he donned a pink dressing gown and looked forlorn while drinking coffee, staring at photos of Laura, and watching TV – with his mother constantly cleaning up after him and taking care of the kids.

The video was set to the song ‘I’m A Survivor’ by Reba McEntire and his caption was the cherry on top. “When your partner’s away for work and you have to single parent…” he wrote, causing a bunch of fans to label him as “embarrassing” and “lame”.

“Some day your own girls will have Instagram, you’re just reinforcing the schtick to those complacent in the patriarchy you profit from. Gross, gross, gross and boring,” one fan commented.

“Continuing to lower the low bar for shitty dads everywhere and the expectations that daughters have of their fathers and men. An embarrassment. Shame,” another said.

Clementine Ford calls out Matty J’s “retro-sexist” video.

After Clementine saw Matty J’s ‘satirical’ video, she shared it to her own Instagram story and unleashed a few choice words.

“I have a whole chapter about this kind of retro sexist comedy in [my book] I Don’t,” she wrote. “Men use ‘comedy’ like this to hide their incompetency in plain sight. When women complain about it or push back, we’re accused (yet again) of having no sense of humour and hilariously of ‘hating men’.”

She added that she was “embarrassed for everyone involved in this”.

Laura Byrne responds to Clementine over Matty J’s video.

Laura isn’t one to shy away from conflict – we saw that when she tore into Abbie Chatfield to defend her bestie Brittany Hockley – so it came as no surprise to me when she stepped up to justify her hubby’s skit.

“Matt uses satire to reflect what’s happening in the world,” Laura said on Instagram. “The irony in that video is the fact that we were both raised by single mums.”

She added that she felt the need to “justify” his video because of “outrage culture”, before saying that Matt is the primary caregiver in their home.

Apparently, Matt takes on more than 70% of the parenting, because she does more than 70% of the work.

Clementine Ford continues her feud with Laura Byrne and Matty J.

If you thought that the saga would be done and dusted after all three parties involved had their say, well, you’d be sorely mistaken.

Clementine told her followers that Matty J and Laura were “precious fucking peccadillos”, and said her original point was “the most basic of criticisms”.

“It articulates the way these people still operate in a high school mentality. We’re the cool, popular kids at school, so you can’t say anything mean about us, even though we’re being total dicks,” she said. Yikes.

Matty J makes fun of criticism with a fake apology.

Matty J didn’t bother addressing fan criticism directly, choosing to share an apology video on Instagram instead. It followed the basic influencer apology template, except he had his mum pretend to do housework while she was in the back. I’m guessing he was attempting to be funny, but it definitely felt forced.

His video was viewed over 616,000 times, with friends and fans praising his decision.

“Ask mum to wash my car while she’s there,” Laura joked.

“If this is ‘retro-sexism’ then I am here for it!! Keep doing you Matty,” another added.

“Loved that you have stayed true to yourself and haven’t caved into the whingers who clearly have zero sense of humour,” a third wrote.

Clementine Ford reacts to Matty J’s apology.

Honestly, I think this feud is going to go on forever, judging by the sheer amount of back-and-forth between the trio. In a moment that everybody saw coming, Clementine took another dig at the couple on Instagram.

“Don’t you think it’s weird that everyone prior to me who had a problem with [Matty J’s video] was either ignored or summarily dismissed in a mock ‘apology’ video made by Matty J?” she asked.

“It helps to be aware that they don’t actually care what their audience thinks because they don’t think you have any important kind of influence.”
