Foreman Dan Shares The Biggest Mistake ‘The Block’ Losers Made
The Block’s foreman Dan Reilly has just spilled some interesting goss about the auction results. Apparently, it may not have mattered what the teams did to their houses in terms of renovation: the house decider challenge is actually the most important one to win.
ICYMI: Houses 4 and 5 went bananas at auction. Steph and Gian from House 4 made the biggest profit, pocketing $1,650,000 and a $100,000 prize. Sisters Liberty and Eliza from House 5 made $1,050,000 in profit, walking away instant millionaires. However, Kyle and Leslie’s House 1 made $130,000, ‘villains’ Kristy and Brett received $65,000 and Leah and Ash’s House 2 passed in.
Foreman Dan Reilly, who competed on The Block in 2012 and 2013, thinks that contestants wanting to take home the grand prize need to do their research. Shots fired.
In an interview with Nine Entertainment, he said that the houses with bigger blocks of land are more sought after, and when you think about that, it makes total sense. Houses 4 and 5 have much bigger blocks of land, with House 4’s around an estimated 700 sqm, compared to House 3’s 574 sqm.
“I always said throughout the show that the sheer size of Houses 4 and 5 and their block size would be hard to beat,” he said. “I just think back to when the contestants actually chose the houses, Houses 4 and 5 were the last to be chosen.”
“It really just goes to show that if you want to win The Block, you’ve really just got to do your research, know the area and know what people there want. It could be make or break [for future contestants],” he added.

Foreman Dan Reilly praises Steph and Gian’s The Block house.
While the sheer block sizes of House 4 and 5 would’ve caught buyers’ eyes, Dan reckons he knows why Steph and Gian’s sold for a record-breaking profit. To put it plainly, the fan-favourite couple did a really good job.
“We haven’t seen a house like [Steph and Gian’s] in a long time on The Block. It just flowed, it was high end, the detailing was there,” he said. “Gian spent a lot of time with the quality of the painting. There was just a feeling about that house. When you walked in, you just wanted it.”

The foreman went on to say that he was pleased that House 4 won The Block 2023, confirming what we’ve all been thinking this entire time: Steph and Gian are absolute angels. “They’re some of the best human beings that I’ve ever been introduced to, and I’m just so happy that they’ve walked away with that life-changing money.”
