The Masked Singer dropped a wildcard mask this week as Poodle trotted on stage and was unmasked as a truly random US celebrity.

As Poodle was instructed to “take it off!”, it turned out to be ’90s soap star, Tori Spelling.

OK?!!

Poodle had previously performed Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ and Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’. When Poodle was unmasked, the panel of judges were left beyond shook, even though Abbie had thrown Tori’s name around earlier. “Our brains are still trying to, like, compute what just happened. And I said the name,” Abbie said on last night’s episode.

Dave Hughes then said something that has left confused viewers, telling Tori that, “In four seasons of the show, you’re the biggest name we’ve ever had on the show.” Umm. Really, Hughesy?

While we can admit that Tori Spelling is definitely a”celebrity”, she is far from the biggest star who has popped up on the show. Given that an actual Destiny’s Child member was unmasked in the same week, fans were pretty baffled by Dave’s comment.

Maybe Tori Spelling was considered a huge star in ’90s when she starred on Beverly Hills 90210, but in 2022, she isn’t someone that Australians think about much. And for people born in the ’00s, they probably have no clue who she is.

This year’s season has seen the likes of Michelle Williams, Sam Sparro, Jamie Durie, Shannon Noll, and Matt Preston unmasked. Previous seasons have unmasked global stars like Anastacia, Macy Gray, Cody Simpson, and Vinnie Jones.

Tori is the daughter of Aaron Spelling, whose company Spelling Television produced Beverly Hills 90210, a beloved series which cast Tori in the role of Donna Martin. 90210 aired for 10 seasons from 1990 to 2000. Since her soap glory days, Tori starred in a string of random Christmas movies, Scary Movie 3, and a Sharknado sequel.

On the back of Poodle’s reveal, Snapdragon, Mirrorball and Rooster will be heading into next week’s big finale.

The Masked Singer grande finale kicks off Sunday at 7:30pm on Channel 10 and 10Play.
