I Think I Know The Identity Of Mirrorball On ‘Masked Singer’ And I’m In Ultra Fangirl Mode

As The Masked Singer continues, the more I dig into my theories on who is who. My house has literally turned into its own judging panel, as we argue about who we think is still hiding amongst the remaining masks.

Just last night, it was revealed that Emma Watkins, aka Emma Wiggle, was the scary but cute Zombie which we predicted earlier! We also saw Jamie Durie, who was the flirtatious Tiger, Pia Miranda as Thong, Lisa Curry as Caterpillar, and Ryan Moloney (Toadie from Neighbours) as Knight.

By dissecting the clues, we also reckon that Popcorn is Aussie pop singer Sam Sparro. And I want to add another theory: I reckon that Mirrorball could potentially be the one and only Melody Thornton of the Pussycat Dolls.

If you’re a true Pussycat Doll stan, you would’ve seen this a mile away — the voice and the clues are super duper easy!!!

And if you don’t believe me, here are the Mirrorball clues and how they link to Melody Thornton.

Also, if I am right (which I am 98.5% think I am) I will actually scream.

Week One

Clue: The Mexican Flag.

Explanation: Melody’s heritage is Mexican-American and African American. Melody opened up to online blog, Chilosagirl, about her Mexican upbringing. “My mom was born in Sonora, however I do not speak Spanish. I grew up on all the Mexican -merican cultures though and I embrace that part of me,” she said.

Clue: Photo of Uma Thurman and John Travolta.

Explanation: Uma Thurman and John Travolta were in a movie together called Be Cool. The Pussycat Dolls, Melody’s old girl group, were also in the same movie with an uncredited role.

Clue: “I’m Mirrorball and I hate to be in the dark.”

Explanation: Melody was known for wanting to step into the spotlight and sing more in the Pussycat Dolls. She commented on her decision to not return to the Pussycat Dolls revival, telling UK music program The Chart Show, “I’m a singer. So for me, there’s nothing really to go back to, because the songs that we had are the songs that we had. I can’t be pressured into that, unfortunately.”

One of Melody’s most iconic moments was when she went rogue during a rendition of ‘Buttons’ at the AMA’s, drowning out Nicole Scherzinger’s vocals. Do those long notes sound familiar?

Clue: “Am I dirty? No. That’s someone else. Be cool? Okay.”

Explanation: Chrissie Swan said that Mirrorball could potentially be Christina Aguilera, with ‘Dirrty’ being one of her most iconic songs. But really Pussycat Doll fans know that Melody is a huge fan of Xtina, as seen in the below tweet. She also again references the movie, Be Cool. 

Clue: “I’ve been on thin ice.”

Explanation: Melody was previously on the show Dancing On Ice. 

Clue: “As a kid, I was really competitive. As an adult, not everyone likes that but I’m sick of running someone else’s race. I’m Mirrorball and my voice will be heard.”

Explanation: Melody has spoken out about her time on the Pussycat Dolls in an interview on Lorraine and she described the experience as “really, really challenging.”

She also spoke out about working with Nicole Scherzinger about how she dominated the group. “Nicole had been in two groups prior and she had all of this experience recording albums, so they said, ‘We’re gonna have Nicole do all the recording, you’re going to have to learn and you’re going to have to dance with the rest of these girls.'”

Since leaving the Pussycat Dolls, Melody has pursued a solo career in music and acting. She was the only Pussycat Doll member to not return after Nicole announced the revival of the girl band in 2020.

Week Two 

Clue: “Finding a good man is hard, I looked everywhere,” Mirrorball said, as one of the actors propose to her but she pushed them away.

Explanation: Melody was previously on the UK reality TV show Celebs Go Dating and her date immediately proposed on the first date… it was incredibly awkward.

Clue: A baby doll.

Explanation: Melody was given the nickname ‘Baby Doll’ in the Pussycat Dolls, due to her being the youngest.

Clue: “Am I on a vendetta?”

Explanation: ‘Sweet Vendetta’ is the name of one of Melody’s solo songs. It was released in 2011.

Clue: Mirrorball struggles to dance and then throws away the number six.

Explanation: Melody has stated before that she is not a dancer and that’s kinda what made her upset when joining the Pussycat Dolls. In an interview with Lorraine Kelly, Melody recalls when she was told that she was going to be a backup dancer. “For me, it really knocked my confidence because I wasn’t using my best asset and people were getting to know me for something that I didn’t do and I was the weakest dancer.”

The number six is also linked to the Pussycat Dolls as before she left, the OG group had six members.

These are all the clues that I have gathered so far and they all point to one mega star: MELODY THORNTON.
