16 Celeb Moments That Lived In Our Head Rent-Free In 2021

It’s an understatement to say A LOT has happened this year.

It feels almost illegal to discuss the fact that Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ debuted this year, that Kimye were technically still together in early 2021, and that we had never heard of, or feared, the term ‘Omicron’ before.

And how could we forget reality TV: the year that brought us Booka’s hit song ‘Brett’ on MAFS, the horrendous feet-clapping moment that graced our screens (also from MAFS), and Brooke Blurton finally getting the happy ending she always deserved.

Moving away from strictly reality TV moments however, through the highs and the lows of celebrity news internationally there have been some standout moments that have not left our heads since they happened. Seriously. I will think about Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox’s GQ interview for the rest of my life.

Here are just some of the celebrity moments that lived in our heads rent-free in 2021.

1. Kimye filed for divorce.

We kicked off the year with a big one: once unshakeable power couple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian filed for divorce and, of course, there were so many tweets and memes.

2. And then there were rumours Kanye had an affair with Jeffree Starr.

The rumour was posted by Ava Louise, a popular TikTok user, on January 6. In the video, she discusses Kanye and Kim, and says that Kanye has been “hooking up with a very famous beauty guru, male beauty guru, a lot of people in the scene have known for a while.” She captioned the video by saying her source is “legit”. The claims were later disputed by E!.

3. The ‘Drivers License’ love triangle enthralled us all.

Olivia Rodrigo’s pointed song seemed like a huge dig towards Joshua Bassett (who starred alongside Rodrigo in Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), and Sabrina Carpenter, another Disney alum, who is believed to be the “blonde girl” Rodrigo references in the song.

4. Armie Hammer made some scandalous headlines.

Yes, that whole ‘Armie Hammer Is A Cannibal’ thing happened THIS YEAR. Read more about it here.

5. And Azealia Banks, uh, dug up and cooked her dead cat?

The rapper posted a series of videos to Instagram (before later deleting them) in which she could be seen digging up a bag with her cat Lucifer’s remains in it. In another video, the cat’s bones and skull were spotted floating through a stew on the stovetop, as Azealia stirred it with a wooden spoon.

Normal things.

6. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave their tell-all interview.

Chatting with Oprah, the two opened up for the first time about their decision to leave the royal family, and put to bed certain rumours that had plagued them since.

7. Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox’s interview about their first meeting never left out heads.

In an interview with GQ, Megan Fox recounted the first time she met Machine Gun Kelly. “This weird thing happened,” Fox said. “We didn’t see each other. I looked up and I was like, ‘You smell like weed.’ He looked down at me and he was like, ‘I am weed.’ Then, I swear to God, he disappeared like a ninja in a smoke bomb.”

Okkaaaaaaaay!

Our other fave punk boyfriend/hot girlfriend combo, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian gave us many public displays of affection over the year… and finally topped it all off by announcing their engagement.

9. Kim Kardashian moved on with Pete Davidson.

Publicity stunt or real love? Kim and Pete have been making headlines the past month or so, ever since appearing on SNL together. Time will tell how far the two will go or if they’ll just stay as another strange coupling from 2021.

10. Nicki Minaj baffled us all with this tweet.

11. John Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler broke up, and he was soon dating Olivia Munn.

Shortly after his split with his wife of six years Anna Marie Tendler in May 2021, John Mulaney was spotted with Olivia Munn and in September he announced he and Olivia were having a baby, which reportedly arrived in November.

12. J.Lo and Ben Affleck got back together.

Does it ever really work getting back with an ex? J.Lo and Ben Affleck seem to think so. The couple reunited 17 years after their breakup, leaving fans shocked and thrilled.

13. Billie Eilish wowed us all at the Met Gala.

14. Taylor re-released ‘All Too Well‘ and everyone started hating Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer.

The new 10-minute version and accompanying video had everyone remembering just how shit men can be. Mood.

15. Ariana Grande got married.

After a few tough years from the Manchester attack to Mac Miller’s death, it was a joy to see Ari looking so happy.

16. Britney Spears was finally free.

In news we’ve been waiting years for, Britney Spears’ conservatorship was finally overruled and the star was free to live her own life on her own terms. The conservatorship controlled Spears’ life for 14 years in which she wasn’t able to make her own decisions about her life or finances. Since then, we’re cheered Britney on as she lives her life on Instagram, showing us exactly how much and how little she wants.
