iYiYi couldn’t be prouder.

Cody Simpson has had a bit of a wild ride in the past few years. Last year, he came out of musical retirement to win The Masked Singer Australia and not to mention, he became the boyfriend of the world’s biggest pop queen. But 2020 has been a little rough to Cody.

Cody and Miley Cyrus broke up in August this year and while we’re sad to see their split, we have to congratulate Cody Simpson on his newest achievement. Cody Simpson could be representing Australia at the next Olympics.

From Singing To Swimming

In a statement to Instagram, Cody Simpson said. “I just qualified for my first Olympic trials… I’d love to share this personal milestone and let you in on my current journey as an athlete that I’ve kept relatively low key until now.

In the social media posts, Cody enlightens all of us to the difficult decision he had to make when he was younger.

“Growing up competing, and then inevitably having to cut my career short as a 13-year-old Australian champion when I was given an opportunity in music that I couldn’t refuse.” Cody said. “I have had the chance to experience and learn so much as a musician from touring around the world, releasing albums, performing as a leading man on Broadway, publishing a work of poetry, travelling with and speaking at the United Nations on environmental and oceanic matters and much more. For this, I will be forever grateful.” So are we Cody. So are we.

A Return To Form

But, we’re happy to see that he’s gone back to his roots and embraced swimming in lockdown. “Now almost exactly 10 years later, here I am once more.” Cody continued, “For years I had been fuelled by the silent fire in my stomach of returning to my first love, the sport of swimming, with the idea that 2020 would be the year I’d try training again. After only 5 months back in the water with my incredible coach (Brett Hawke), I was able to take out a win and secure a spot at next year’s Australian Olympic trials in the 100 fly.”

I mean, are we surprised by the fact that he’s a butterfly swimmer, just look at the arms on that man. THE ARMS.

“It is my greatest ambition to expand the limit and perceived notion of what’s possible for a man to achieve in a single lifetime, and I’m here to tell you can do absolutely ANYTHING if you are willing to work for it. I’m looking forward to seeing where this all takes me on the long road ahead!”
