Gemma And Luca AKA Love Island UK’s Most Toxic Couple Have Split And It’s Gotten Messy
Reality TV breakups can go one of two ways: the couple can coordinate their announcement, perhaps even penning a joint statement shared simultaneously where they thank fans and maintain they’ll stay friends. Or… it can really go tits up.
Love Island UK’s Gemma Owen and Luca Bish’s split has landed firmly in column B. But before we dive into that mess, let’s catch up on who TF Gemma and Luca are. Gemma and Luca met on this year’s Love Island UK and their relationship was quite the rollercoaster. During the season, Luca was accused of bullying fellow contestant Tasha Ghouri and acting controlling towards Gemma.
Despite all the controversies that plagued the couple, they ended up placing runner-up behind literal Season 8 icons, Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, who are luckily still together. Thank God!
The show ended three months ago and apparently three months was enough for Gemma and Luca to finally realise they were a disaster. Gemma shared a statement on her Instagram Story to reveal “Luca and I are no longer together,” adding “It wasn’t an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now.”
However, Luca did not share the same statement. I don’t know about you but I’m getting flashbacks to Australia’s own messy reality TV breakup when Darvid Garayeli went rouge and announced his split from Brooke Blurton via an Instagram Story.
Two hours passed before Luca posted about the breakup, and his statement told a rather different story. “Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my breakup,” Luca wrote.
Oop! It does not sound like Gemma gave Luca a heads-up before announcing the split. Messy!
Luca continued, “I would have liked some time to process this privately but as you all now know, sadly Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways.”
Both Luca and Gemma thanked their fans for supporting their journey on Love Island UK.
Rumours that the couples had split first surfaced when Luca attended the TV Choice Awards in London on Monday without Gemma. Since Love Island UK wrapped, the couple rarely walk the red carpet without being hand-in-hand so this was an obvious red flag.
However, a mere week ago the couple were posing together at a “bonfire night” on Instagram. I’m not sure what that is but it sounds like some type of cult sacrifice, but tbh, they looked pretty happy.

Aside from Gemma and Luca, Season 8 of Love Island UK has made some solid couples, with Ekin-Su and Davide, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope, along with Andrew Le Page and Tasha Ghouri, all still going strong.
