All The Times We Probably Should’ve Just Stopped Watching ‘Gossip Girl’

In hindsight, Gossip Girl was a cooked show.

While Gossip Girl lives on as one of the most iconic shows to come out of our generation, it wasn’t all good. Hear me out.

I think we look back on Gossip Girl with some rose-coloured glasses because there are definitely some moments that leave me shook upon a re-watch.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I – and the rest of the Internet – productively used the days at home to re-watch the teen-hit drama and I’ve come to realise that there were so many times when Gossip Girl got a little too cooked for my liking. Here are some of them.

The Time Bart Bass Fell Off The Roof Of A Building

Okay, I hated Bart Bass as much as the next guy, but oh my gosh this scene was awful.

In ‘The Revengers’ (Season 6, Episode 9), Bart and his son Chuck have a heated argument which results in hands being thrown. But, this scene – I can not stress this enough – may be one of the worst scenes in the history of television.

At this moment, Gossip Girl is unsure if it’s a Marvel movie or a Mexican telenovela and it ends with Blair Waldorf dramatically saying “C’mon, we have to get out of here,” before a ‘to be continued’ title card appears. Honestly, I can’t. Scar and Mufasa could never.

The Time An Extra Wore One Shoe

We’re not sure who was in charge of costuming that day, but what in the fresh hell is this?!

We’re casting your mind back to Season 5, Episode 3 ‘Jewel of Denial.’ Basically, Blair Waldorf and Dan Humphrey arrived at a party in each other’s arms, but you probably wouldn’t remember that because you were too busy staring at the background extra who thought she was on the set of Cinderella

The Time They Did Hilary Duff Dirty

Hilary Duff is one of this generation’s greatest lyricists and produced some of the greatest songs of all time. And Gossip Girl had the nerve to do this to her? No thank you.

The Time Serena Wore Tracksuit Pants Under Her Dress

Again, someone in the wardrobe department better have gotten fired for this. In ‘Portrait of a Lady Alexander,’ Serena is out to lunch being her fashionable self, donning a coral dress and doing so flawlessly. The only issue I have with this scene? The fact that she randomly rocks a tracksuit pant at the end.

Chuck Bass’ Entire Character

I get that he’s hot. But, think about it, Chuck Bass was a dick and none of his antics would fly if the show was made today. Let’s hope all of Chuck Bass’ problematic tendencies are not included in the reboot.

All Those Questionable Plot Lines

Gossip Girl

If you think about the plotlines of Gossip Girl and don’t think of anything insanely cooked, think harder. Do we need to remind you of the time that Jenny’s enemy drugged her so she could be sexually assaulted? Or what about the time that Bart Bass bought a racehorse to cover up illegally trading oil with Sudan? And don’t even get us started on the time when William van der Woodsen tricked Lily into thinking she had cancer. Shocked? We have more. Seriously, the list goes on.

The Time Little J Did Parkour

Okay, so this didn’t actually happen in the show. But, this video is too iconic not to bring up.

Do you see it now? This show was wild! And while we’re on the topic of Gossip Girl, we bet we can guess which Gossip Girl character you are based on your star sign.
