Lucinda And Timothy Don’t Survive MAFS. There, I Said It.
So far this year, Married At First Sight has consumed four thousand hours of my life. Partly because I report on the show for work, but mainly because this year has had me glued to the screen.
From “muzzle your woman”, to watching a medium get married on national television, it’s been impossible to look away. Naturally, I have a few favourites in the mix and top of my list is Lucinda.
She arrived on MAFS armed with her “MANifesto” and complimented everyone’s spirit and emotional houses from the get-go. She’s a Byron Bay local who loves a custom gown for a dinner party and demanded a chicken wing be wafted around her for good luck on her wedding day. So, in short, I’m deeply in love with her.
Lucinda has been matched up with Timothy, a 51-year-old real estate fella from Victoria. Look, he’s not bad by any stretch but I think it would be fair to diagnose him with emotional constipation – which is a real stark contrast to Lucinda who is extremely in touch with her emotions and sometimes like to do an interpretive dance with them.
As a couple, the two have gone through some rocky times and some super lovely moments. But, I’m afraid to say this out loud because I know it will be a tricky pill for people to swallow, but… Lucinda and Timothy don’t make it.
I don’t have hard evidence (like a statement directly from Married At First Sight) to prove it, but there have been some subtle clues that have been peppered around and now I’ve gathered them all together, I’m sure that it adds up to an imminent breakup.
First up, I had a phone call with Lucinda.
I gave her a ring to chat about her time on the show and she spoke very positively about Timothy, but very much in a “we’re chums” kind of way. Here are the quotes that assured me she was giving off single-gal energy.
“The hardest part of MAFS was my own dynamic, navigating my relationship with Tim. Tim is such a legend, but we do come from really different worlds and different perspectives. We were a slow-burn story, and I had to cultivate a lot of patience.”
I admitted that Lucinda was my favourite person on the show, and in turn she told me who her “favourite people” were. “I adored Andy and Richie as a couple and I always found Tristan and Cass super cute…” she said before quickly saying, “And definitely my husband!”
Clarifying later on in the call when I asked who she was still in touch with, she said this: “As far as lifelong friendships go, Tim and Andy are up there.”
Did you read that?! “Lifelong FRIENDships.”
Lucinda also went on live radio and made a bit of a boo-boo. When she was asked if she’d ever move to New Zealand (where the radio show she was on was being recorded) she said, “If I met a really…” Lucinda began, before realising her mistake. “Well, yeah maybe,” she corrected herself. “If I met a really nice job opportunity or something like that.”
Of course, fans of the show (and myself included) jumped to the conclusion that she was actually about to say, “If I met a really special person”, and therefore revealing her single status. You can watch the clip here and decide for yourself:

My final piece of evidence I’d like to submit is this. As Lucinda works as a wedding celebrant, her work is quite well publicised across the internet as she gives couples she’s working with updates from her. One intriguing update was that she’s moving to Sydney.
“I’m currently in Victoria & moving to sunny Sydney beginning of March. I’m taking enquiries & would love to MC your party too,” she wrote on Instagram.
Now, the fact she said that she was “currently” in Victoria (where Timothy lives) around the time that MAFS would have been wrapping filming perhaps means that she said down there to give it a shot with Tim on the outside. But surely her announcing that she’s scooting up to Sydney means that whatever romantic relationship she was having in Victoria is likely over.
It’s certainly not looking great for Lucinda and Timothy’s love affair, but if how Lucinda speaks of Timothy is anything to go by, I think they at least end respectfully and with a lot of care for each other.
