Why We’re Rooting For ‘MAFS’ Cuties Claire And Jesse

This season of Married at First Sight has been nothing short of chaotic amid the bitching, backstabbing, cheating, and all the other drama we’ve come to know and love from the wild reality series.

But throughout the madness, there is one couple we hope to see claw their way out of ruins by the end of the series: Claire Nomarhas and Jesse Burford.

Look, we know what you’re thinking. How the hell could we possibly hope that Jesse and Claire work out after the sh*tshow that’s gone down between the pair? But hear us out for a sec.

Yes, Claire did cheat with Adam Seed, and that’s totally not okay. It’s a major breach of trust and it’s caused a lot of hurt for everyone involved, especially Jesse. But here’s the thing: people make mistakes. It’s part of being human. And while what Claire did was wrong, it doesn’t mean she’s an inherently bad person, or that she and Jesse can’t work things out.

Let’s also not forget the fact that Jesse hadn’t exactly been the best partner to Claire prior to the cheating scandal (remember the ‘ick list’?), not that that’s any excuse for cheating, but we digress.

Amid the intense dinner party where Adam and Claire were dragged over coals for their drunken night of infidelity and subsequent lies to their respective partners, there was one major difference in their responses: Claire took responsibility and showed remorse for her actions, whereas Adam continued to be a douche canoe and insisted he’d done nothing wrong to Janelle.

It became even more clear that Claire was willing to make things right with Jesse following her indiscretion when she opted to stay. While Adam simply yeeted himself out of the experiment, Claire went out of her way to take Jesse on dates that she knew would align with his interests.

In the most recent commitment ceremony, the giddy couple seemed to be in a better place than ever, with a usually morose Jesse actually smiling and opting to stay. He even went as far as to say he forgave Claire and felt “prioritised, considered, wanted” and “liked her the most ever”, so what’s to say the whole drama didn’t give them a clean slate to restart?

We all know relationships are complicated, and they require a lot of work and forgiveness. If Jesse is willing to give Claire another chance, and if Claire is willing to do the work to regain Jesse’s trust, then who are we to say that they can’t make it work?

Some may argue that Jesse deserves better, or that he should just move on and find someone who won’t cheat on him. But here’s the thing: relationships aren’t about finding someone who’s perfect, they’re about finding someone who’s willing to work through the imperfections with you, as Jesse said, “forgiveness is a choice”. And if Jesse and Claire are both willing to put in the work, then we say they should give it a shot!

So here’s hoping that our sweet angels Jesse and Claire can mend their relationship. It won’t be easy, but we reckon they’re both capable of making it happen. And who knows? Maybe they’ll even come out of this stronger than ever before!

Married at First Sight airs Sunday to Wednesday on Channel 9.
