Ghosts Of ‘MAFS’ Past: Remember When Ines Yelled At Bronson On A Boat?
If you thought this year’s couples on Married at First Sight were dysfunctional, cast your minds back to 2019 when no two people have ever clashed more (or louder) than Ines Basic and Bronson Norrish.
It was not love (or even like) at first sight for the unlikely pair, as upon meeting Bronson all Ines did was complain about his eyebrow ring and said he looked “inbred”. Ines would go on to start an affair with Sam Ball during the season, which came after herself and Bronson left the experiment after their honeymoon — and what a honeymoon it was! They stayed in Port Douglas together and were constantly at war.
Well, it wasn’t all bad. The honeymoon did bless us with this meme-worthy moment when Ines asked Bronson if he would ever have sex with her.
But tensions were at an all time high when Bronson planned a surprise day out for the new couple to go parasailing. Sounds fun, right? Wrong. MAFS has served up a lot of iconic moments in the past and this is up there with the most memorable.
From the very beginning, Ines was in a mood. “Are you excited about today?” Bronson queried. “Excited about WHAT?” Ines snapped. “About what we could be doing?” Bronson asked again. “No! Not excited,” Ines moaned.
As they climbed aboard the small boat, Bronson was beaming and Ines looked like she could vomit at any moment. Ines then told the parasailing instructor that she’s prone to fainting if her blood pressure gets too high, which is info that didn’t seem to faze Bronson.
Bronson then made a joke about crocodiles being in the water and Ines wasn’t impressed. “Bronson doesn’t calm me, like he actually pissed me off,” she said in her voxxie.
As tensions increased, Ines told him “The less talking you do, it’s going to be better for me.” Bronson then dared to try and comfort Ines, and she replied “Shut the fuck up!” This was the first of many times Ines would say this to Bronson.
In Ines’ defence, she did not seem to be having a good time in this boat, she was clearly panicking as there was no emergency help out at sea. “I’m just trying to stay calm so I don’t collapse,” she said, before telling Bronson to go parasailing on his own.
Things took a turn when Ines then joked to the parasailing instructor, “Does anyone has a knife so I can cut the rope and watch Bronson sail away into the sky?” This triggered Bronson, who then launched into his new wife. “As a human, you are a horrible, horrible person,” he started, but Ines injected “Shut the fuck up! Get me off the boat!” She continued to yell in his face: “Shut the fuck up! When I say don’t speak, shut the fuck up!”
“I can see why you’re single,” Bronson replied.
Despite all the yelling, Bronson did go parasailing. “It was amazing, I got away from Ines,” he said afterwards.
For what it’s worth, Ines explained after the episode aired why she reacted so extreme to Bronson in that moment. “I don’t think Bronson was aware that I had a really bad experience in Mexico when I went parasailing. We were dropped in the middle of the ocean,” she said on spin-off show, Talking Married. “We only see things from our level of perception. He may have just thought I was being rude or obnoxious, but it was actually a cry for help.”
