Jacob Elordi Really, Really Hates ‘The Kissing Booth’
Aussie heartthrob Jacob Elordi has taken a few cheeky swipes at The Kissing Booth trilogy, and honestly, where is the lie? While I’m all for a Netflix rom-com, the teen story sure had a lot of plot holes. The films teeter between Not Good and So Bad It’s Actually Amazing territory.
The Kissing Booth came out in 2018, the same year as To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – which, in my humble opinion, is far superior – and was Jacob’s breakout Hollywood role.
But now, he’s transforming his image with roles in Euphoria and Saltburn, and is apparently a better Elvis in Priscilla than Austin Butler… plus, he hasn’t had to adopt the Elvis voice for the rest of his life.
The actor chatted to GQ for a long profile piece, and of course, he was asked about his role as Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth. Trying to put some distance between himself and the films that put him on the map, he called the franchise “ridiculous”.
“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies,” he said. “Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape.”
When the interviewer pointed out that it’s common for young actors in Hollywood to make films they aren’t interested in, with a “one for them, one for me” mindset, Jacob said that mindset can be “a trap”.
“It can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside. So it’s a fine dance. My ‘one for them’, I’ve done it,” he said.
Does Jacob Elordi miss Australia now that he’s big in Hollywood?
The star lives in the US while he’s working, but tries to get back home whenever he can. He’s not overly enamoured with the culture and way of life, and admitted that he can feel isolated at times.
“If Australians are like freshwater fish, Americans are saltwater fish. It kind of looks the same. The water is water, you’re swimming around, but you can’t breathe,” he explained. “The isolation is a big thing. When I first moved here, everyone was very closed in on themselves.”
Jacob also added that he feels like he’s just “killing time” while he’s in the US, waiting for his real life to start. “I spend all my time here,” he said with a sigh.
Brb, starting a petition to rescue Jacob from the US and get him filming here in Australia. Kissing Booth 4 perhaps?
