8 TV Couples That Should Give Everyone The Ick

We’ve been introduced to many iconic TV couples over the years, including David and Patrick from Schitt’s Creek, Leslie and Ben from Parks and Recreation, and Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill… but for every swoon-worthy couple, there have been some truly, truly, terrible ones.

From relationships with no chemistry to questionable age gaps, there’s some couples that I absolutely despise and believe within my soul that they need to get in the bin.

And while I’ll excuse some toxic behaviour if the romance is ~that~ good (I’m looking at you, Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls), there are times when it simply goes too far.

Here are 8 TV couples that give me the ick, from Gilmore Girls to Pretty Little Liars

Rory and Dean, Gilmore Girls

There’s a lot of debate about Rory’s relationships and I’m firmly on Team Jess. I also believe that Rory is a bit of a selfish brat and shouldn’t really end up with anyone, but if I had to choose, it’s Jess all the way.

But let’s take a quick look at Rory and Dean’s relationship. He’s controlling, demanding, and pretty rude. He tells Rory he loves her and when she’s unable to say it back (in HIGH SCHOOL), he breaks up with her. Fast forward to Season 4 and we see Dean cheat on his wife Lindsay with Rory. That’s gonna be a no from me.

Aria and Ezra, Pretty Little Liars

Teacher-student relationships are an immediate no.

Instead of calling it quits once they realise Ezra is teaching at Aria’s school, they carry on their relationship in secret. Obviously, Aria’s parents try desperately to stop their TEENAGE daughter from dating a grown man but she doesn’t listen.

It’s sold to us as this big romance and the couple end up getting married?! I don’t know how this storyline made it out of the writers’ room.

Veronica and Duncan, Veronica Mars.

I know what you’re thinking, the most toxic relationship to come out of Veronica Mars was the one between Logan and Veronica. But for me, I’m more inclined to think that Veronica and Duncan were the absolute worst.

Duncan’s father, Jake, and Veronica’s mother, Lianne, had an affair right before Veronica was born. Once Duncan learns that Veronica could be his half-sibling, instead of talking to her like a normal person, he just dumps her and avoids her for five million years.

Coach and Cece, New Girl.

Coach and Cece went out on a date while Cece and Schmidt were on a break, but it doesn’t go well at all. The couple went to watch a basketball game, but Coach spends the night texting another woman and ignores her.

Turns out he was texting his mum, and after telling Cece he’s nervous about getting into the dating world again, they end up making out in an alley. Guys, the chemistry level is basically zero. I refuse to believe this happened.

Belly and Conrad, The Summer I Turned Pretty

I’m a Team Jeremiah girlie, so I may be a little biased but Belly and Conrad have no spark at all. I’ve written a pretty thorough list of why Jeremiah is the superior choice but all you need to do is watch the video below.

I rest my case.

Nate and Maddy, Euphoria

Nate and Maddy are about as toxic as it comes. Nate is physically and emotionally abusive, while Maddy attempts to manipulate her boyfriend through blackmail. I’m sorry if you’re an Euphoria fan, but there’s nothing good about this couple. At all.

Carrie and Aidan, Sex and the City.

Aidan is a passive-aggressive, jealous, controlling boyfriend and Carrie deserves better. Remember when he bought the apartment next to Carrie, along with hers, but kicked her out when they broke up?

It seemed like he was doing her a favour at first, it got messy when they called it quits. He gave her 30 days to get together a deposit for the apartment, otherwise, she was gone. I don’t have room for this level of petty in my life.

Lex and Lana, Smallville

Lex was another creepy adult who liked to hang around kids at school, including Lana. He’s obsessed with Clark and I think he only liked Lana because Clark did.

Plus, Lex made Lana think that she was pregnant so that she would marry him! Psychopath behaviour – but that’s expected from a villain, I guess.
