It’s Time To Admit Lucas Scott Was The Most Boring Male Lead To Ever Exist On A Teen Series
More often than not, there’s a brooding, serious male lead in teen TV shows. Think Ryan on The O.C., Liam in the 90210 reboot, or more recently Connell on Normal People.
A lot of the time they’re ridiculously good looking, still built like an absolute athlete, secretly smart, and the fact they are quiet just adds to their mysteriousness. They probably also really like to read because they’re not like other guys.
Which brings us to a certain character on teen series One Tree Hill. Let’s not get it twisted, One Tree Hill was an incredible show. From Sophia Bush playing low-key feminist icon Brooke, to a Pete Wentz cameo, and the greatest scene of all time – a dog eating a heart transplant – the show really did have it all.
But it’s time to talk about Lucas Scott, the original leading man of the series and we have to call it for what it is: Lucas Scott was truly the most boring fucker of all time.
Lucas’ backstory was that he was raised by his single mother, Karen. Dan Scott, his biological father, had settled down with Deb instead and they had a son Nathan – for context, Lucas is only three months older than Nathan. So being raised as the forgotten child while your half-sibling lives the rich, family dream was never going to be easy, which could explain why Lucas doesn’t crack a smile in most episodes of OTH.
It’s an indisputable fact: One Tree Hill‘s Lucas Scott hated having fun.
Literally, I can’t think of an episode where he cracked a joke. He just constantly looked like this:
Even when he was playing basketball, something he LOVED doing, he looked like this:
He may have grown out his hair at some stage, but he still didn’t manage to grow a SENSE OF HUMOUR:
But enough poking at his lack of expression. I am someone who has a huge resting bitch face, so she that casts the first stone, etc. Pretty sure my old religion teacher is shaking her head at me trying to use that Jesus metaphor but– anyway, let’s move on.
The real reason Lucas Scott sucked wasn’t just because he was boring as shit to watch.
Lucas Scott was also a huge fuckboi, and the most dangerous kind: he was the ultimate SOFTBOI.
He spent most of his teen years pretending to be this moral, down to earth dude, while playing both Peyton and Brooke and having a hand in turning the two best friends against each other.
Honestly, I’ll never be over how he played Brooke. So nasty and so rude!
While rewatching OTH during quarantine, there is one thing I have learned that I never noticed as a teenager. LUCAS SCOTT IS TOXIC AF. HE cheats on queen Brooke TWICE and then has the audacity to claim she never fought for him? GTFO

Also, he was the king of backhanded compliments. How is this cute?!
He’d also constantly dribble out shit like this, all while not even factoring in that he rarely worked on being a better person, as we saw in the time jump.
Because it’s not like he grew out of his fuckboi behaviour: years later, he dragged Lindsey along to their WEDDING DAY (he proposed to her after they had a fight about Peyton).
Thankfully Lindsey finally saw sense and dumped his ass at the altar.
He also wrote what seems like the most boring book of all time, An Unkindness of Ravens, which is just him wanking himself off about his two ex-girlfriends.
Here’s what he wrote about Brooke:
“She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant and beautiful and brave. In two years, she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I’m not sure she even knows it.”
And here’s what he wrote about Peyton:
“Peyton Sawyer is destined for greatness. Actually, she already is great. Because Peyton Sawyer has a thing called integrity. And nothing or no one is ever going to change that.”
Please don’t try and tell me he didn’t just repeat the same thing in different ways.
Lucas left the series as a main character in series six, after he and Peyton finally sorted their shit out and had a daughter, Sawyer (with the middle name Brooke, because it’s all very normal to name the baby after your sometimes best friend, sometimes nemesis, and teen ex-girlfriend).
I’ll never understand why I liked Lucas Scott when I was 15 I am in shock at what a shitty character he is lmaooo

And while One Tree Hill was originally created with Lucas as the lead character, we can now all finally acknowledge that Nathan Scott was the superior brother after all.
Thanks for listening.
