Booka’s Bridesmaid Has Gone Rogue, Spilling On What She Says Really Happened With Brett On ‘MAFS’
The rumoured breakup of Married at First Sight’s Booka Nile and Brett Helling just keeps getting even messier, as Booka’s bridesmaid has gone rogue in a tell-all interview.
Booka and Brett seemed like an ideal match in the early episodes, but have grown apart in recent weeks with Brett often complaining that Booka’s conversations are too intense. On Tuesday night’s episode, shit truly hit the fan when Patrick penned a feedback letter to Booka, essentially degrading her entire character. This letter was clearly informed by Brett’s opinion of Booka, but it left viewers confused. Most of us have not seen the side of Booka described in the letter, which made me wonder: What are we not being shown? Or this a case of Brett twisting what’s really going on in their relationship?
Here to shed some light on it all is Booka’s bridesmaid, bestie, and housemate Madeline, who spoke to So Dramatic! to share Booka’s side of the story — and what wasn’t shown on the reality show. “The wedding happened and we were kind of like, ‘Aww, this guy is so beautiful, he’s so woke, he’s so amazing.’ I had a crush on him, I was like: if she doesn’t want him, I’ll have him,” Madeline began.
“But then she started confiding in us about stuff that was happening and it was so disappointing and just like, gross really. Like the behaviour — I can’t comment on his character — but the behaviour was like, what is this?”.

Madeline then elaborated on some of the offensive comments Brett made to Booka. “One thing that was quite distressing and concerning was the sexist behaviour, but he was covert about it,” she said. “He was cracking sexist jokes about, like, women can’t drive. Like the most basic humour, pathetic humour, like it’s 2021, people stopped cracking jokes about women being unable to drive years ago.”
When Booka told Brett these jokes weren’t appropriate, this is when their relationship allegedly took a turn. “Booka came back to him and was kind of like, ‘No, that’s not funny,’ and he apparently got very offended by this and that’s where the whole like, ‘You need to lighten up,’ type of thing started. That’s where you see these comments starting out like, ‘You’re too intense’,” she said.
“That was after Booka explained a lot of her experiences as a woman, just as any women does have, as we’ve seen recently with the information coming to light about women who experience sexual harassment or sexual assault. Booka disclosed her experiences growing up as a woman to Brett, and tried to explain why those jokes actually contribute to rape culture and all of those things, and he just wasn’t having it — he wasn’t listening to it.”
After continuous discussions with Brett about his tone-deaf jokes, Booka even had to resort to showing studies to Brett to prove that sexist remarks have been historically linked to violence against women, and at this point she was labelled “too dark” by Brett and told to “lighten up”.

Madeline added that despite Booka being labelled too dark and intense, she said this doesn’t reflect the friend she knows. “Anyone who knows Booka … knows that Booka does not take things too seriously at all. She cares about people very deeply — she’s a very empathetic person. To see him making comments about her being too intense, it’s like, nah dude, she’s not too intense. He’s just upset that he’s been called out and that she doesn’t find his sexist jokes funny.”
Along with making sexist jokes, Madeline also detailed behaviour which she described as homophobic. “There was the cracking jokes about how him and Patrick are gay together, because they just love each other so much. Again dude, you can be affectionate with your mate, you can love your male friend, without having to crack jokes about you being gay together.
“Are you that insecure in your position as a straight man? It is homophobic in nature, because it’s perpetuating the idea that you can’t be affectionate with your male friend otherwise that’s gay, so I’m just going to joke about it to cover it up, so everyone knows I’m not actually gay, I’m only joking,” she said.
“It’s like dude, pull your head in. Look at what’s around you. For Liam’s sake as well, like apparently Brett sat on Liam’s lap [at last week’s dinner party] while Liam was holding hands with Georgia… he was making Liam super uncomfortable. Basically this says it all, but the nickname Brett gave himself was ‘Butt Boy Brett’, because he just loves his bros so much, so he has to give himself a gay nickname as a joke.”
Madeline also seemingly confirmed a rumour alleged by So Dramatic! that Brett has a fetish for Japanese women. She said for one of the tasks, they had to write “a pros and cons list…and under the things I don’t like about you, he put: ‘You’re not Japanese’,” she relayed. “There’s such an issue in society — especially Western society — where especially women of colour are fetishised and it’s like no, it’s not okay and it’s not funny.”
Ultimately, Madeline said Brett’s MAFS edit is not an accurate representation of what Booka told her happened during their time on the show. “People are confused, they’re like: ‘There must be more to Booka that we haven’t seen.’ Well, no really. She’s just this fun-loving person, the person you haven’t seen sides of is Brett,” she said.
“You look at people like Bryce and he might as well have ‘I’m a sexist’ or ‘I’m a misogynist’ written on his forehead, but then you meet someone like Brett, that if he had it written on him, it’s just a sneaky tattoo no one can see.”
