Get In Loser, The New ‘Mean Girls’ 2024 Trailer Has Just Dropped
It’s time to get personally victimised by Regina George. The new trailer for Mean Girls 2024 has just dropped and I’m obsessed.
Before you go on about how not everything needs a reboot or sequel, this isn’t a direct remake of the film. Instead, the iconic teen film has followed in the footsteps of Hairspray – the first iteration was in 1988 as a film, before Broadway came calling in 2002, spawning the Zac Efron and Amanda Bynes movie musical in 2007.
I watched Mean Girls on Broadway in its opening week and it was worth lining up for hours in the cold. The songs are perfect, the casting was genius, and it captured the sarcastic wit that the original film is known for.
The Sex Lives Of College Girls star Reneé Rapp reprises her Broadway role as Regina George, Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho is Janis ‘Imi’ike and The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Christopher Briney is the dreamy Aaron Samuels.
There are some notable returning cast members and cameos, with Tina Fey back as Mrs Norbury and Tim Meadows back as Principal Duvall. Emily Park, who originated the role of Gretchen Wieners on Broadway, has been cast as an uptight French teacher, in a nod to her Netflix series Emily In Paris. In another stroke of genius, Busy Phillips has been cast as Regina’s cool mum and Jenna Fischer plays Cady Heron’s soft-spoken mum.
Without further ado, please entertain yourself with the Mean Girls 2024 trailer: welcome to Regina George supremacy.
Here’s every intrusive thought I had while watching the Mean Girls trailer.
The aftermath of the Burn Book scene looks far more chaotic than in the original film. Incredible.
What do you mean “This isn’t your mother’s Mean Girls”?!
Isn’t that Heathers? Or am I one trillion years old? I am a mum of two… cats, that is.

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Get Him Back!’ song is the perfect choice for the trailer.
But it’s certainly a *choice* to hide the fact that it’s a musical.
(the twist is that mean girls is now a musical) pic.twitter.com/pVTi1iF1js

The Plastic’s ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ dance is insane.
Regina attempts to do a cartwheel-handstand-type move on another girl’s back, and it ends in tears and chaos. Did Cady push Regina?
Reneé Rapp absolutely owns this role.
Side note, I’m loving all the extra POC in the cast. Avantika Vandanapu plays dumb really, really well.

Aaron Samuels is played by Christopher Briney and I can’t help but think ew, Conrad.
Can you tell I’m a Team Jeremiah girlie from The Summer I Turned Pretty? Okay, but the Cady and Aaron gum convo is adorbs though.
It’s Pam from The Office!
She kinda sounds like Amy Adams here.
Cady seems like even more of a wallflower than in the original film and I’m obsessed with the energy that Jaquel Spivey is bringing to the table as Damian.
Also, I *hate* it when bullied kids eat their lunch in the toilet at school. It’s gross.
I didn’t think Rachel McAdams’ “Get in loser” quote could be topped, but here we are.
Ahhh! Regina’s outfits, her car, her mansion. Absolutely no notes.
Busy Phillips is the perfect mum character who is always chasing youth.
Reminds me a bit of her role in Tina Fey’s Girls5eva.
Instead of cutting holes in Regina’s t-shirt, we have a bit of sprinkler action in a Carrie-esque scene.
“All we’ve done is make Regina hotter and revive the wet look.”
I wish we were able to see some of the musical numbers, but the production value looks amazing.
The glimpse of the big dance numbers has made my musical theatre nerd heart very happy.
Leaving this here for those wondering why Reneé Rapp got the Mean Girls musical movie poster. THIS is the most anticipated number from the show pic.twitter.com/rhXfHB8rHk

wait wait hold on….you release a trailer for the film of the stage adaptation of Mean Girls but *reads notes* use non musical songs as the music and don’t include singing clips of the songs

Regina has a giant pimple, and we’ve been blessed with the best line of the trailer: “Sexy. Like a face breast.”
Thank you Karen Shetty.
Mean Girls comes out in theatres on January 12, 2024.
