‘Bachy’ Dumpee Monique Spills All The Tea About The “Dr. Matt Is A Dog C**t” Saga

From an intruder, to talking about the mines on a single date with Dr. Matt, and then to the centre of a very Australian scandal over the use of the phrase “dog c**t”, Monique was sadly dropped from The Bachelor mid-cocktail party last night.

The self-proclaimed “bogan” was thrown under the bus by Abbie on Wednesday night’s ep, who thought Dr. Matt needed to know that he’d been called a “dog c**t” and a “disrespectful pig” by Monique in a private conversation the girls had by the pool.

As Dr. Matt tried to ascertain whether or not the words were said – and if it was a joke or not – Monique stood her ground, insisting that she could not recall if those exact words were used, but that like, she wouldn’t use the word “pig”.

No one expected to see Monique make it through the rose ceremony, but she managed to stay in the mansion over poor ukulele-wielding Julia, before she was ousted last night for failing to jump for bouquets with enough enthusiasm to earn back Dr. Matt’s trust.

Punkee spoke to Monique – who is “open” to dating someone, but is currently taking a little bit of “me time” – about whether or not she said those immortal words about Dr. Matt, Abbie’s behaviour, and about being proud to “look like an idiot on TV” if it means sticking to her guns.

Here’s what Monique had to say about her dramatic time on The Bachelor:

On the lead-up to the whole “dog c**t” drama – the girls didn’t know Elly had already pashed Dr. Matt at a cocktail party

“The reason why I was so revved up was because you guys see Elly kissing at the cocktail party, but we don’t actually know that. But I did, because she was upset about it when everyone was giving Abbie shit about it.

“Obviously Abbie kissed him at a cocktail party, she said she wouldn’t and she did, and then everyone was sorta pissed. The next day, everyone was having a debate about whether it was the right thing to do or not. At this stage, nobody knew that Elly had done it.

“We had a really deep conversation between everyone and we were like, ‘Look, at the end of the day, we’re gonna have to agree to disagree.'”

On having a laugh about Trent from Punchy with Rachael

“Rachael and I moved aside and then she and I started having banter, because she and I can swear together, because we have the same sense of humour. [The ‘dog c**t’ comment] was taken wildly out of context and it’s a bit frustrating, but it is what it is.

“She and I were just having like a massive laugh, being like, in [Trent from Punchy’s] voice, vocal, trying to be funny to each other. We weren’t being serious about Matt.”

On Abbie’s real intention in dobbing her in

“It was definitely used to get me out of the competition.

“[Abbie] was upset [about the pash scandal]. She was like, ‘I don’t understand why people aren’t happy for me.’ And I was trying to explain it to her. I was like, ‘Hun, just take the emotion out of it. The reason why the girls are upset is ’cause, 1) you just don’t kiss at a cocktail party, 2) you said you weren’t gonna do it, and you tried to convince everyone that you weren’t going to and then you did it.’

“‘The girls are upset because some of the girls hadn’t spoken to him since the red carpet, and they were feeling less worthy. They’re like, you know, why am I here if I’m just going to be like an extra?’ So I was sticking up for all the girls who felt less worthy, because I’m really passionate about mental health, and I was like, ‘No, you girls are worthy, it’s just the setting that we’re in, that it’s not organic,’ and things like that. And [Abbie] just didn’t like that I was not agreeing with her opinion. She just used [the ‘dog c**t’ comment] against me.

“I shouldn’t have sworn around girls that would be offended by it, but I still don’t think [Abbie] should’ve done what she did. You’ll see throughout the series how much she lies and manipulates.”

On feeling supported by the other women when the “dog c**t” drama kicked off

“As an intruder, I wasn’t very liked in general. I wasn’t friends with Rachael, I wasn’t friends with Sogand, they were friends with Abbie. As soon as Abbie did what she did, they were like, ‘You know what, I’m actually gonna now swap to Mon, because what you’re doing is wrong.’ And then that’s how Rachael and Sogand, my relationship with them formed, because I was like, ‘you guys were friends with her, you weren’t friends with me, and then you just completely had my back when you didn’t need to, so thank you so much.’

“For me, that was amazing. Helena and all the girls really had my back. You obviously don’t see that on TV, but they were just like, ‘The way that Mon speaks most the time, that should have been taken into consideration, and you know that she’s a bit bogan,’ whatever else.”

On not being Dr. Matt’s “cup of tea” if he’s so into someone like Abbie

“I know who I am, and I could take it or leave it. If you want to compare me to her, then that’s fine, but you’re not gonna be my cup of tea and I’m not gonna be yours.

“I was shocked that he kept me [on Wednesday’s rose ceremony]. The thing that I was a bit upset was when he said, ‘Look, this has been a tremendous waste of time, I don’t want to talk about this again, let’s all move forward.’ So I thought, ‘Okay, well, we’re moving forward from it.’ But watching the TV back last night, that’s not what he wanted.

“So I went in [to the group date] going ‘Okay, well, I’m just going to give all the girls time now, because I’d already had a lot of time.’ I ruined the girls’ [cocktail party]… I’m coming into this going, I’m not gonna steal any time, I’m not gonna steal the girls’ time who I’m trying to stick up for because they felt worthless. So I’m just going to let things happen and I’m just happy to sit back. But what I didn’t know was Matt was wanting me to fight Abbie for his attention, and that wasn’t happening.”

On feeling proud to look “like an idiot on TV”

“I was just quite shocked that he kept going around and around in circles, and I was like, ‘You said you didn’t want to talk about it, and now you want me to talk about it.’ I was like, I could make this all better and just say exactly what you want me to say and just say, ‘Yeah, look, I said it, and I’m really sorry.’

“But I came in here saying that I was going to stick to my guns and be true to myself and I would rather look like an idiot on TV than lie to you and say that I said it and then start lying just to stay in the competition. For me, I was actually really proud that I did look like an idiot on TV, because I don’t remember saying that sentence. Yeah, I admitted to the swearing and I did apologise if he was offended, but he just didn’t want to hear it. He wanted an answer that I wasn’t prepared to say, and that’s it.”

On being scouted by producers for The Bachelor

“I was scouted on Instagram funnily enough. It was just one of those things where I got asked and I was like, ‘You know what, why not? I’m in a place in my life where I’m happy, I actually have the time…’ So I kinda thought, ‘Everything happens for a reason,’ so I was just really excited to start a new exciting journey.”

On who she hopes wins The Bachelor

“I hope Kristen does. She’s such a beautiful girl. So amazing.”
