Taylor Swift Addressed Her Feud With Kanye West While On Stage

If you thought Taylor Swift’s feud with Kanye West was in the past, well, you’re wrong. 

While the pop star claimed that Kanye no longer crosses her mind in the song ‘I Forgot That You Existed’, she did reference their messy shared history while performing in Mexico City this week. 

I’m pretty sure that everybody in the world knows what went down, but here’s a quick refresher: at the 2009 VMAs, Tay Tay won Best Female Video for ‘You Belong With Me’. During her acceptance speech, Kanye ran onstage and stole the mic out of her hands, and what he said next is permanently etched into my brain. 

“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time,” he said. 

Their beef continued for years and eventually involved Kanye’s now ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. After Kanye added a controversial claim about Taylor in his song ‘Famous’, about how he feels like he made her famous, she appeared to call him out during her Grammy’s acceptance speech in 2016. 

There’s so much more that went down, including a leaked phone call, a snarky post from Justin Bieber involving Kanye West and Scooter Braun, and references in music videos, but I’d be here all day if I attempted to explain their entire history.

Anyway, back to 2023. Taylor has been on her epic Eras world tour and she gave a mid-concert speech to a massive crowd in Mexico City. Swifties are notorious for being extremely passionate, and they started chanting Taylor’s name.

In videos from the concert, Taylor looks touched and taken back, before mouthing “I love you” to her fans. She couldn’t help but take the opportunity to throw a ~lil~ bit of shade towards Kanye, by saying that the interruption was welcomed.

“It’s the best way to be interrupted, by the way, just people chanting your name… It’s really the only way to be interrupted and I would know,” she joked.
