Last ‘Bachy’ Brunette Emma On All The Hometown Action We Didn’t See

After a series of food-based single dates, Emma was sent home after hometowns on last night’s episode of The Bachelor.

She was initially dubbed a “clinger” because of her immediate and overwhelming feelings for Dr. Matt, but he apparently appreciated how upfront she was about her emotions. So much so that he made her a wood soundwave carving that quoted their first meeting, “I love being in love.”

But, as Bachy alumni Laura questioned, did she love being in love, or did she love the Bachelor?

Emma said she was “in love” with him after their puppies and friendship hometown date. But that just led to her being sent home over Helena, who pre-emptively dumped the Bachelor TWICE last night. He just didn’t think he’d be able to reciprocate the intensity of her feelings by the end of the series.

Punkee spoke to Emma about the water fight we missed on her hometown date, being the last brunette standing, and never holding back.

Here’s what Emma had to say about her romantic time on The Bachelor:

On whether it was unfair for Helena to get that rose ceremony extra time

“Yes. Like hello, just get it all done at hometowns, that’s the point [laughs]. I felt bad for her though, watching her date, like, oh God, she was freaking out. So I could understand why she was eager to chat to him, but it still sucked that she had that extra time.

“I really don’t know [if I went home as a result]. It’s so hard to know what’s going through his mind and he doesn’t give that much away. I don’t know. I’d love to know but it is the way it is.”

On the moment she realised she might be going home

“I noticed maybe halfway through the hometown visit that he had started to kind of shift a little bit. I had a feeling that my time was up at that stage. Look, at the end of the day, I told him my feelings and that’s the whole point of the show.

“I just had this feeling. I could just kind of tell that the energy had shifted between us. I had a night to kind of sleep on that and to accept the reality that there may be a good chance that I’m going home.”

On what we missed of her hometown date: Dr. Matt shirtless

“You missed us washing my dogs. That big blue thing in the shape of a dog was actually a mobile grooming van. So Matt and I got in the van with my two dogs, Teddy and Bear, and yeah, we actually ended up turning the hoses on each other. So yeah, you missed Matt taking his shirt off – getting all wet and lathered up. You missed that, and then we had a picnic. I know one of his favourite desserts is sticky date pudding, so I organised to get a giant sticky date pudding for him. So we had that at the park as well.

“Yeah, [at the end of the date] we were pashing! Come on, he likes a good pash, I think we all know that… They need a storyline at the end of the day and I was the one that was gonna go, so they need to show that to the viewer. Unfortunately they didn’t keep that bit in, but it’s okay.”

Breaking news: I love love! Lol! But seriously, what a ride! This journey has been a very emotional one for me. I want to thank all of you who have sent such lovely and positive comments. You have no idea how much it’s meant to me and has helped me throughout this journey. At the end of the day I went on this show for genuine reasons and to find….wait for it….love! 😂 I did find love and that was with the beautiful women I met on The Bachelor. My fellow bachelorettes, you have been there for me throughout the highs, the lows, the tears, the laughs and everything else in between 💋💋💋 Here’s to the next chapter!! 💫 @thebachelorau #thebachelor #thebacheloraustralia

On The Bachelor‘s “pressure cooker” environment and whether it heightened her feelings for Dr. Matt

“I think [our connection] was genuine to be honest. I obviously came on quite strong at the beginning, but he said that he loves that about me, and he knew exactly where he stood with me – what was good, and he appreciated that. I think we had definitely a strong connection.

“It’s such a pressure cooker environment and everything is heightened and dramatised. You’re being asked to talk about particular topics while you’re in the mansion, and you think that your feelings might be at a certain level. But in reality, they mightn’t actually be like that, because he’s the only guy that’s around and he’s the only one that we’re talking about. The focus is very much on Matt. I did develop feelings for him. Whether or not they were as heightened as they made it out to be on the show, I don’t know. I have to own it.

“Once you’re out of that pressurised environment, you do get that kind of kick of reality. I definitely learnt a lot. I got over it pretty quickly.”

On whether she reckons she could’ve been a bit more restrained about her feelings for Dr. Matt

“I probably could have! Let’s be real. You know what, people are asking you questions and they’re talking to you about love all the time and marriage and you fall into that trap of just answering the questions that you’re asked. At the end of the day, the show is about love, and surprise, surprise, there’s someone on there to find love. I don’t think that’s the worst thing in the world.”

On being doomed to go home, as the last brunette in a sea of blondes

“Doomed is a bit dramatic. I could dye my hair. Hey, I was the last brunette standing. That’s gotta mean something. I wasn’t paying too much attention to people’s hair colour. Maybe I should’ve. Maybe I should’ve gone to the hair and make-up team and just been like, do you just wanna put a bit of bleach in my hair? And see how far I would’ve gotten.”

On being scouted for The Bachelor on Palm Beach

“I was approached actually. A lovely person came up to me one day and asked if I was single, and I was like, ‘Oooh, is this person setting me up with someone?’ [laughs]. And we started talking about The Bachelor. So I thought, ‘You know what, let’s just do it. I’ve never done anything like this before. So why not?’

“I was actually at Polo on the Beach in Palm Beach. So I think I was about maybe five champagnes in at this stage [laughs]. So I was having a great time! So I thought, ‘You know what, yeah, I’ll go along, I’ll give it a crack.'”

On the series being anyone’s game, but who she hopes will win The Bachelor

“It’s really difficult to know [who will win], to be honest, at this stage. You can tell he’s struggling to make a decision. I don’t know even if [Dr. Matt] knows at the moment. All the girls have got great qualities, and they’ve all got a good connection with him in different ways, so whoever he ends up with, I’m sure he’s going to be very happy.

“I was good friends with Chels. She’s a good buddy of mine and she is very sweet, she’s got a lot to offer in a relationship, and she’s absolutely gorgeous. It’d be good to see her happy.”

On whether she’s up for Bachelor in Paradise

“Give me some time to get over this please! [laughs] I need to take some time out for a while, I think. Never say never, but I don’t know.”
