‘Bachelorette’ Fave Ciarran Tells Us He’s Still Waiting For Angie To Slide Into His DMs
Ciarran left The Bachelorette last night, devastating the entire nation (and also Angie).
The loveable English gent impressed both the Bachelorette and Australia by being unapologetically himself – in the way he dressed, in the way he behaved, and in the way he developed his connection with Angie.
This is a man who on the first date/one-on-one time just came out with it: he’d had a nose job, he’d worked as a stripper in a gay bar, and he had no regrets. He later opened up to Angie about a difficult upbringing and how much he loved his gran, and he, the one who always looks so perfectly put together, went on a jet boat for love on a single date.
Find you a man who will ride a jet boat for you, even if it’s the last thing in the world he wants to do.
Then on last night’s episode, it was pretty powerful to watch Ciarran express his grief at the loss of his beloved gran on national television. He wanted to be his best self for Angie, which he couldn’t be through that sadness, and he needed to be with his family.
While, ofc, we all understand why Ciarran had to leave the show, we’re going to miss his humour and honesty and his bare bottom on our TV screens (too much? o_0). But hopefully Channel 10 heeds the public’s wishes, and dubs him the 2020 Bachelor.
Punkee spoke to Ciarran about how he thinks he would’ve made it to the end, but he would’ve been totally OK with coming second to Carlin.
Here’s what Ciarran had to say about his dynamite time on The Bachelorette:
On how he’s doing since being on the show
“It’s just been a bit crazy, now the show’s out and everything’s been madness – I’m loving it. I’ve actually not really watched any of the episodes. I watched half the first one and I was like, that’s really cringe, I’m not watching more. With this one that’s just been on, it brings back up the memories and the feels. It’s pretty full-on.
“I haven’t [heard from Angie]. I’m still waiting for her to slide into my DMs, but she hasn’t done it yet. It might be when the show’s finished [laughs].”
On making the tough decision to leave the mansion early
“Once I got the news of my nan passing away, it sort of sent my head a bit west. I just wanted to see my family, deal with it my way. I sort of shut down and don’t wanna really be around people [when I’m grieving]. So the best thing for me, in my head at the time, was to leave the mansion. Looking back on it now, I sort of wish I didn’t do it.
“You forget the cameras and everything are there, so I just felt I was having a chat. But then obviously, you do remember they’re there at the same time. So it’s like, do I say everything, do I not? But, if I’m leaving, I felt like [Angie] needed to know why. I couldn’t just be like, ‘Oh, see you, I’m off.’ I didn’t want her to think it was anything to do with her.”
On whether he thinks he would’ve made it to the end
“I don’t wanna toot my own horn, but it felt like, at that time, I was in a real good place with Angie. We were both vibin’ each other, having a good laugh. I felt like I was one of the frontrunners, easy. I definitely think I would have made it to the end.
“At first, she kept saying, it was just sexual chemistry, so I had to try and prove there was a bit more to me than just that. I felt like I was starting to do that. But then I got the news, and that was it. It was game over for me.”
On becoming a surprise fan favourite & his OTT fashion
“When [The Bachelorette] first started to air, the previews, me in my suit, I was getting quite a bit of hate. Then, episode after episode, people are like, ‘Oh, this guy’s pretty chilled out, he’s quite genuine, he’s not taking himself too seriously, he likes to take the piss.’ It feels really nice that Australia fell in love with me in a way.
“I’m pretty confident in that I don’t mind trying on new things… I said to the stylist, I was like, ‘I don’t wanna look like a real estate agent. I wanna look a bit out there, and want a bit of pizzaz, and bring a bit of life to it.’… [The stylist] kept getting all the good stuff for me and hiding it from everybody else [laughs].”
On going on The Bachelorette because his friends kept pestering him to do it
“I was with a group of mates and they kept tagging me: ‘Apply for The Bachelorette!’ I was like, ‘I’m not gonna do this. No one from Darwin gets on a show like this. What’s the point?’ They were like, ‘Come on, bro, you’ll be funny.’ We had dinner and a couple of red wines and then me and a mate applied thinking nothing of it. Next thing I know I got told I was on the show.”
On who he hopes will win The Bachelorette
“I don’t wanna sound mean, but I don’t want Ryan to win because I was a bit off him. If I was to finish second to anyone, I’d say Carlin, because I was good mates with him and I know he’s there for genuine reasons. I got to know him really well in the mansion. I’d pick him if that was my choice.”
On whether he’ll be back as The Bachelor or on Bachelor in Paradise
“[The calls to be the next Bachelor are] a bit crazy. There are petitions going around. If they want me to do it, then I’d definitely do it.
“If they asked me to do [Bachelor in Paradise], then, why not? I might as well. I’m not gonna pass up an opportunity to have a go at something. I’ve never been to Fiji, it sounds nice.”
