‘Bachy’ Friendly Ghost Alex Hoped Sabotaging Ryan Would Get Him To Hometowns
Alex, one of the gentle, quiet men of this season of The Bachelorette, was sent home on last night’s episode.
It was actually a pretty kind move – the next ep is hometowns, and wouldn’t it be weird for Alex to have to introduce Angie to his family when they’ve not been on even one date?
From what we say, Alex never even earned one-on-one time. He literally would’ve spoken to Angie only on group dates and at cocktail parties, where he was clever enough to sweep Angie away as the rest of the blokes were arcing up about breaches of the ‘bro-code’.
He turned up with pot plant in episode one, he gave the dog date a go, we never saw his comedy, we never saw him talk to Angie’s mum, or try to dress a mannequin child. He was like this season’s friendly ghost. We know he was there, but he was barely even meddling – until last night that is…
Punkee spoke to Alex about finding the perfect opportunity to throw Ryan under the bus, and realising his time might be coming to an end.
Here’s what Alex had to say about his time on The Bachelorette:
On stirring shit at the final cocktail party dinner
“I actually got talking to Ryan in the mansion and I found out that information that he did apply for Ali’s season… Ryan was the frontrunner before that trust circle, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to throw him under the bus. And hopefully it would be enough to take Angie to meet my mum and brothers. It backfired and he ended up getting the first rose…
“I was actually feeling quite confident going into this trust circle, because I actually had nothing to hide. A few of the lads were probably getting a little bit nervous as we all sat down, but I was feeling quite confident.”
On the seemingly mansion-wide beef with Ryan
“I think Ryan got dealt a pretty tough card being the intruder. We’d already started making some pretty strong friendships – for him to come in a few weeks later made it really tough. He dug himself a bigger hole with not really being completely honest with us as a group, and not really joining in with the banter, and just taking his own path in the situation. It was quite weird.”
On seeing other blokes go on second dates when he hadn’t had one
“Probably the toughest time in the mansion for me was realising that I was actually probably not going to get the single time with Angie. Watching Carlin and Timm get these second single dates, I soon realised my time was probably coming to an end.”
On using the weird ‘bro-code’ drama to spend extra time with Angie
“Boys were really shooting themselves in the foot. I thought Angie might eventually see that I was actually the only one staying out of all this childish drama.
“Going into the mansion I just really wanted to be myself. Unfortunately, the genuine, nice guys don’t make exciting TV.”
On going on The Bachelorette to get out of his comfort zone
“I think it was just an awesome opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and see what this reality TV world’s like.
“I’ve been single my whole life. I’m getting into my late 20s now and time’s running out a little bit, any other way [of dating] hasn’t worked for me, so I just thought I’d try something new.”
On who he’s barracking for on The Bachelorette
“I really hope Timm wins. I got along with Timm really well and he’s a real laugh.”
